In an email sent Monday to all priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago and leaked to Sign of the Cross Media, Cardinal Cupich makes no mention whatsoever of the major announcement that an Illinois native — a priest and a bishop — is being named a blessed. Instead, Cupich uses the moment to condemn President Donald Trump as racist and to conjure partisan outrage by demanding an immediate apology.

On the very day Illinois Catholics learned that Venerable Fulton J. Sheen — one of the greatest evangelists of the 20th century — will have his path to sainthood advanced, priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago received an email from their cardinal oozing with extreme Democrat talking points.

Cupich said:

Portraying human beings as animals – less than human – is not new.

A few days ago, we saw that in the White House such blatant racism is not merely a practice of the past. If the President intentionally approved the message containing viciously racist images, he should admit it.

Our shock is real. So is our outrage. Nothing less than an unequivocal apology – to the nation and to the persons demeaned – is acceptable. And it must come immediately.

The subject of the email from Cupich to all the priests was not Sheen. There was no thanksgiving, no prayer, no reflection on priesthood, no meditation on Eucharistic devotion, no mention of the Marian piety exemplified in the exalted son of Illinois — the greatest bishop America has known.

Instead, Cardinal Cupich chose that moment to deliver a political rebuke of President Donald Trump, demanding an immediate public apology over a controversial social-media video.

The subject line of the leaked email set the tone:

The beatification announcement of Fulton Sheen was a once-in-a-generation moment for Chicago Catholics. Sheen was:

• An Illinois native
• A stalwart pro-life bishop and theologian
• A tireless defender of Catholic truth in the public square
• A man of deep Eucharistic and Marian devotion
• A model of priestly courage in hostile media environments

Yet Cardinal Cupich said nothing about him. Perhaps Cardinal Cupich doesn’t like what Sheen had to say — and given Cupich’s well-documented Democrat devotion, that would be understandable. After all, Sheen famously warned:

Just think … of how many mentally disturbed women we are going to have in the United States in the next 10 or 15 years when the guilt of abortion begins to attack the mind and soul.

And Sheen was equally uncompromising about truth:

Tolerance applies only to persons, never to truth. Intolerance applies only to truth, never to persons.

But beyond this, the leaked email does not stand alone. It fits a well-documented pattern under Cardinal Cupich’s leadership — one repeatedly noted by LifeSiteNews and other Catholic commentators:

• Honoring Democrat pro-abortion Senator Dick Durbin with a lifetime achievement award, while minimizing abortion as the preeminent moral issue.
• Suppressing the Traditional Latin Mass, while publicly disparaging “traditionalism” as spiritually dead.
• Framing moral teaching through political categories — immigration, race, climate — while blurring doctrinal clarity.

The leaked email is simply the latest and most symbolic example yet.

Fulton Sheen repeatedly warned that the Church’s greatest danger would not come from persecution from without, but from confusion from within — when shepherds begin speaking the language of the world more fluently than the language of Christ.

And that is why so many Catholics increasingly conclude that Cardinal Cupich acts more like a Democrat politician than a Catholic bishop.

Sheen’s words to the laity now ring louder than ever:

Who is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious.

It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, the ears to save the Church.

Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops act like bishops, and your religious act like religious."

"CONCORD (LifeSiteNews) — New Hampshire Republican Gov. Kelly Ayotte has once again vetoed legislation that would keep gender-confused males out of intimate facilities, athletic teams, and prisons intended specifically for women, calling it a repeat of a previous “impractical” effort to fix the issue.

SB 268 would have clarified that it is not “unlawful discrimination based on sex or gender identity” to maintain divisions based on sex in the areas of “lavatory facilities or locker rooms designed for usage by multiple persons at the same time”; “athletic or sporting events or competitions in a sport or similar activity in which physical strength, speed, or endurance is generally recognized to give an advantage to biological males”; or “prisons, houses of correction, juvenile detention or commitment centers, mental health hospitals or treatment centers and like facilities to which persons may be committed involuntarily.”

New Hampshire Public Radio reports that Ayotte vetoed the bill on February 6, noting that she said she “vetoed a nearly identical bill to this one last year. I made it clear this issue needed to be addressed in a thoughtful, narrow way that protects the privacy, safety, and rights of all Granite Staters. Unfortunately, there is minimal difference between Senate Bill 268 and the bill I vetoed last year, which Governor Sununu vetoed the year prior.”

Last July, Ayotte vetoed HB 148, which would have done the same thing. At the time, she claimed to recognize “important and legitimate privacy and safety concerns raised by biological males using places such as female locker rooms and being placed in female correctional facilities,” but considered the bill “overly broad and impractical to enforce, potentially creating an exclusionary environment for some of our citizens.”

The governor’s veto message did not elaborate on those alleged defects, but went on to claim state law already adequately addressed the athletic issue “by prohibiting biological males from competing in girls’ sports in K-12 schools […] The language in House Bill 148 addressing women’s sports is largely redundant and, frankly, weaker than the current law.”

Under current state law, any “interscholastic sport activity or club athletic team sponsored by a public school or a private school whose students or teams compete against a public school must be expressly designated […] based on the biological sex at birth of intended participants”; and “Athletic teams or sports designated for females, women, or girls shall not be open to students of the male sex.”

Republicans in the state legislature are not believed to have the votes necessary to override Ayotte’s veto of SB 268, as they failed to do so last year after her veto of HB 148.

Allowing gender-confused individuals to compete in opposite-sex sports is promoted by liberals as a matter of “inclusivity,” but critics note that indulging “transgender” athletes undermines the original rational basis for having sex-specific athletics in the first place, thereby depriving female athletes of recognition and professional or academic opportunities.

Critics also warn that forcing girls to share intimate facilities such as bathrooms, showers, or changing areas with members of the opposite sex violates their privacy rights, subjects them to needless emotional stress, and gives male predators a viable pretext to enter female bathrooms or lockers by simply claiming transgender status.

There have been numerous high-profile examples in recent years of men winning women’s competitions, and research affirms that physiology gives males distinct athletic advantages that cannot be negated by hormone suppression.

 In a 2019 paper published by the Journal of Medical Ethics, New Zealand researchers found that “healthy young men [do] not lose significant muscle mass (or power) when their circulating testosterone levels were reduced to (below International Olympic Committee guidelines) for 20 weeks,” and “indirect effects of testosterone” on factors such as bone structure, lung volume, and heart size “will not be altered by hormone” use; therefore, “the advantage to [gender-confused men] afforded by the [International Olympic Committee] guidelines is an intolerable unfairness.”

Even the left-wing United Nations has acknowledged as much, via an October 2024 report by Special Rapporteur Reem Alsalem, which found that more than 600 female athletes around the world have lost more than 890 medals to men in 29 sports as of March 2024. “To avoid the loss of a fair opportunity, males must not compete in the female categories of sport,” the report concluded.

In America since the 1980s, more than 1,941 gold medals in female events that would have gone to female athletes have instead been claimed by men identifying as “trans women,” and along with them more than $493,173 in prize money across more than 10,067 amateur and professional events, according to data compiled by He Cheated and reviewed by Concerned Women for America.

Societal indulgence of “transgender identity” poses a range of difficulties for the administration of criminal justice, given that prisons are segregated by biological sex. 

In recent years, there has also been growing concern around the world over placing men who claim to be women in female prison populations, which has proven to be a means of both securing lighter treatment during incarceration and gaining easy access to women to prey upon. Transgender status also has the potential to be exploited to avoid incarceration entirely in some cases, as seen in Wales when a man who identified as a woman received a suspended sentence keeping him out of prison despite him physically assaulting two female partners within days of each other, on the grounds that he would be “vulnerable” behind bars.

Ayotte has a mixed record on social conservative causes. The same time she vetoed HB 148, she also vetoed bills that would have made it easier for parents to object to pornographic content in school libraries and opt their children out of vaccine requirements. She did, however, sign a different parental rights in education law last June and a ban on puberty blockers and gender “transition” surgeries for minors last August."

"(LifeSiteNews) — President Donald Trump emphasized the importance religion and announced new guidelines for the protection of prayer in public schools during the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday.

“To be a great nation, you have to have religion. You have to have faith. You have to have God,” Trump told lawmakers and religious leaders who attended the event, which is in its 74th year.

Fox News reported that El Salvador President Nayib Bukele as well as Jelly Roll, who won a Grammy on Monday night and boldly praised Jesus Christ during his acceptance speech, were among those in the audience.

Trump made news Thursday when he told attendees that the Department of Education is “officially issuing its new guidance to protect the right to prayer in our public schools,” which he described as “a big deal” while also underscoring his administration’s focus on religious liberty and school choice.

Last month, Trump issued a proclamation for National School Choice Week celebrating parents’ “God-given right” to direct their children’s education instead of Deep State bureaucrats and liberal activists. “My administration is bringing the sinister ‘Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion’ agenda to a screeching halt and … we are proudly eliminating Federal funding for schools that permit discriminatory treatment and anti-American indoctrination,” his statement said.

At Thursday’s Prayer Breakfast, Trump said that on May 17 there will be an event on the National Mall for America “to pray, to give thanks” and to “rededicate America as one nation under God.” The announcement was met with swift applause.

Trump also half-joked that he’s “not a perfect candidate” for heaven but that “I really think I probably should make it.” Trump said last year aboard Air Force One that “I’m being a little cute – I don’t think there’s anything going to get me in heaven, OK? I really don’t,” but added, “I’ve made life a lot better for a lot of people.”

Upon winning re-election, Trump directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to lead a task force to “eradicate anti-Christian bias.” Last February, she announced the “Weaponization Working Group” to review Biden-era targeting of Catholics, pro-lifers, President Trump himself, and others.

During his remarks Thursday, Trump reflected on prayer as being “America’s superpower,” saying it “strengthens, heals, empowers and saves.” He tied faith to national resilience, noting his personal experiences, including surviving assassination attempts."

The amended Medical Aid in Dying Act, signed Friday, theoretically only allows mentally competent, terminally ill adults with six months or less to live to request life-ending medication from physicians.

Religiously oriented home hospice providers can supposedly opt out while ensuring patients can kill themselves elsewhere, and violations are defined as professional misconduct under state education law.

The law takes effect in six months to allow for regulations and training.

Pro-life critics warned that the legislation, even with amendments, fails to adequately protect people with disabilities from being pressured into suicide instead of receiving care.

This approach is not an expression of compassion. It threatens the future of palliative care and creates strong financial incentives for insurers to deny costly, life-sustaining treatment while promoting assisted suicide as a cheaper alternative. Such a system puts people who are sick, disabled, or elderly at serious risk. Illinois must act swiftly to defend a genuine understanding of dignity in dying, one that centers on care, support, and protection rather than abandonment.

Disability rights advocates argued the law does not do enough to protect them from being pressured into the procedure.

The Catholic Church and pro-life groups severely criticized the measure, with Republican lawmakers long opposing it amid fears it dismisses palliative and hospice care in favor of death.

Critics pointed to experiences in states like Colorado and Oregon, where assisted suicide laws have affected patients with disabilities, mental illnesses and non-terminal diseases, potentially leading doctors to offer death to those with mental health issues instead of support.

Hochul, who had pledged in December to sign the legislation with amendments, defended her decision as one made for all New Yorkers.

“I had to be very careful” not to allow her “own circumstances and life influences … to color my decision making when I’m making a decision not for myself but for 20 million New Yorkers,” Hochul said.

The Medical Society of the State of New York reversed its opposition in 2024, and groups like Compassion & Choices pushed for it.

The legislation had stalled for years amid fierce debate, with pro-life opponents arguing it opens the door to abuse and devalues human life, particularly for the disabled and mentally ill."

A baby who was born alive in Queensland, Australia, following a failed abortion procedure at 16 weeks, was left to die sucking his thumb, according to information from a whistleblower at the hospital.

A photograph of the baby, known as Samuel, was initially shared on the Instagram account of Dr Joanna Howe, a Professor of Law at the University of Adelaide. Dr Howe stated that the photograph and other relevant information were passed on to her by Queensland health workers.

“He survived his abortion and was born alive and then left in a room by himself, sucking his little thumb, until he died”, Dr Howe said.

“We need to stand up for these little babies who are being killed right up until birth, and if by some miracle they survive their abortion, they’re being left to die”, she added.

In another video, Dr Howe stated that the circumstances in which baby Samuel died are “not an isolated case. It happened to 50 Queensland babies in 2022 who survived their abortion and were left to die”.

Dr Howe revealed shortly thereafter that an additional whistleblower who works in the Queensland health service had given her a photograph of the administration book where births are recorded.

Dr Howe stated that the book reveals that one unborn baby named Amira was “injected in the heart with poison at 25 weeks. She suffered a cardiac arrest, going into excruciating pain. Her mother was given labour-inducing drugs and baby Amira was born intact”, adding that the baby was delivered dead.

The birth book reveals that baby Amira weighed 726 grams when born, which Dr Howe notes is approximately “the size of a pineapple”. It also revealed that the abortion was a “social termination”, meaning “there was nothing wrong Amira, there was nothing wrong with the mother”, according to Dr Howe.

Abortion up to birth

Following law changes to “decriminalise” abortion, starting with Victoria in 2008, abortion is now allowed up to birth in all states of Australia.

State laws in Australia allow for abortion right through to birth on physical, psychological and social grounds when approved by two doctors; this can be the abortion operating surgeon and anaesthetist.

This has, in practice, allowed for de facto abortion on demand, for any reason, right through to birth in Australia.

Victoria was the first state to change their law to allow de facto abortion on demand up to birth. Ahead of the legislation being introduced in Victoria in 2008, abortion activists claimed that, although abortion would, in practice, be allowed for any reason, doctors would ensure that the vast majority of abortions would occur only in rare circumstances, such as when a baby had a condition where they would either die in the womb or shortly after birth (a fatal fetal abnormality or life-limiting disability).

Data from the operation of the law in Victoria shows that this has not been the case. Right To Life UK’s Public Affairs team undertook an extensive analysis of published abortion data on late-term abortions in Victoria from The Consultative Council on Obstetric and Paediatric Mortality.

This data shows that between 2008, when the law changed, and 2020, 1,418 late-term abortions (between 20 weeks gestation and birth) were performed, allowed by doctors for ‘psychosocial’ reasons – these were abortions where the baby did not have a disability and the abortion was performed on social grounds. In 2011, one of these abortions on social grounds occurred at 37 weeks.

In South Australia, the only jurisdiction whose laws require it to regularly collect and publish data on abortion, in 2023, almost 80% of late-term abortions performed at 23 weeks gestation or over were carried out due to the mental or physical health of the mother, with none of the late-term abortions being carried out to save the life of the mother.

Babies born alive and left to die

In the state of Victoria, of 310 late-term abortions (after 20 weeks), 33 babies were born alive and subsequently died. These deaths were recorded as “neonatal deaths” rather than deaths by abortion.

In 2008, a UK report found that 66 infants were born alive after NHS terminations in one year. The majority of those 66 babies took over an hour to die.

In the state of Victoria, scores of babies have been left to die after being removed alive during a number of ‘failed’ terminations, according to one official review.

The review reported that in 2011 there were 40 ‘terminations of pregnancy’ after 20 weeks ‘resulting in live birth’. While these figures are comparable in scale, Victoria’s population of 5.5 million is just a tenth of Britain’s.

Between 2005 and 2015, 204 babies were born alive as a result of abortions in Queensland.

Abortion ‘decriminalisation’ amendment currently being considered by the House of Lords

In June 2025, pro-abortion MPs, led by Tonia Antoniazzi MP, hijacked the Crime and Policing Bill to rush through the ‘decriminalisation’ clause (191) after just 46 minutes of backbench debate – there was no prior consultation with the public, no Committee Stage scrutiny and no evidence sessions.

The Antoniazzi clause would make it more likely that healthy babies are aborted at home for any reason, up to birth.

The clause would change the law so it would no longer be illegal for women to perform their own abortions for any reason, and at any point up to and during birth.

If this amendment becomes law, it would likely lead to a significant increase in the number of women performing late-term abortions at home, endangering the lives of many more women.

The proposed change to the law would also lead to an increased number of viable babies’ lives being ended well beyond the 24-week abortion time limit and beyond the point at which they would be able to survive outside the womb.

Tonia Antoniazzi MP said in an interview that she was comfortable with women being able to abort a viable baby at 37 weeks.

91% of 28,000 respondents to a poll run by The Telegraph said they were opposed to the extreme law change that would be introduced by clause 191.

A high-profile member of the House of Lords, Baroness Monckton, has tabled an amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill, along with other Peers, to overturn the highly controversial ‘decriminalisation’ amendment in the Bill.

Spokesperson for Right To Life UK, Catherine Robinson, said “It is tragic to hear this harrowing information on abortion in Queensland that Dr Joanna Howe and the whistleblowers have brought to light”.

“When women discover they are pregnant, they should be met with the practical help and support they need to continue their pregnancy. The law must be changed to ensure that the most vulnerable people in our society – unborn children without their own voices – do not have their lives unnecessarily ended”.
