"(The Washington Stand) — Hundreds of Christians in China will likely spend Christmas in jail this year, according to a recent report. Starting on December 13, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) mobilized “more than a thousand police officers, SWAT units, anti-riot forces, and firefighters” in the Zhejiang Province’s Yayang Town in Wenzhou City, raiding churches and conducting mass arrests of Christians, ChinaAid reported Friday.

“Belongings of relevant individuals were illegally confiscated, roads leading to the church were completely blocked by police, and Christians in Yayang Town were unable to enter the Yayang church. The operation lasted nearly five days, yet no public statement was issued by officials,” the outlet noted. “Within just the first two days, several hundreds of people were taken away for questioning. On December 16 and 17, at least four more individuals were detained.”

Two local Christians, 58-year-old Lin Enzhao and 54-year-old Lin Enci, were labeled “principal suspects of a criminal organization” by the CCP, with locally-posted wanted posters charging the two with “picking quarrels and provoking trouble,” which ChinaAid noted is a “commonly used charge” by the CCP against religious and political dissidents. Over the past several years, CCP officials in Yayang Town have attempted to forcibly destroy church property, including symbols such as crosses, and install CCP propaganda and imagery, such as the five-star Red Flag and the CCP’s constitution. Enzhao and Enci were key figures in opposing the CCP’s efforts.

Chen Yixin, director of China’s Ministry of State Security, is a native of the province and has led efforts to demoralize the Christian community there, including by initiating a program to destroy crosses in 2014 and install the national flag, the Constitution, laws, and socialist core values in Christian spaces and promote the “localization” and “politicization” of religious activities. However, the Christians of Yayang Town have resisted the CCP’s efforts for over a decade, hosting rallies and demonstrations and even confronting state police when necessary.

Following the mass arrests this month, the CCP hosted an “Elimination of Six Evils” demonstration, with SWAT officers and riot police deployed en masse “to demonstrate force, intimidate local Christians, and create an atmosphere of fear, framing the earlier law enforcement actions as ‘results of the anti-organized crime campaign,’” by which the government means the crackdown on Christians. According to ChinaAid, police have stationed vehicles at the homes of known Christians, “disrupted” communications among Christians in the area, and have even gone “door-to-door” questioning church members and asking them to denounce Enzhao and Enci.

“Government-driven public opinion campaigns are spreading defamatory rumors portraying Christians as ‘unpatriotic’ or belonging to a ‘cult,’” ChinaAid reported. “This approach aligns with China’s recent trend of criminalizing certain religious activities. On September 29, China’s leader reiterated in a speech the need to ‘systematically advance the Sinicization of religion.’ Earlier, mass arrests at Beijing Zion Church saw pastors and church members detained on fabricated charges of ‘fraud.’”

In comments to The Washington Stand, ChinaAid founder and Senior Fellow for International Religious Liberty at Family Research Council Bob Fu said, “The massive pre-Christmas assault on churches in Wenzhou is a chilling reminder that the Chinese Communist Party fears the light of Christ most when it shines brightest. To raid churches days before Christmas is not only an attack on Christians — it is an assault on human dignity, conscience, and the hope that faith brings to a wounded world.” He continued, “History teaches us that no regime has ever succeeded in extinguishing faith through force. These pre-Christmas attacks will only strengthen the resolve of China’s house churches and further expose the moral bankruptcy of state-sponsored persecution.”

The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) and other religious liberty watchdogs have repeatedly warned that China’s totalitarian regime is enacting human rights abuses against religious groups within the nation’s border. A USCIRF report late last year detailed mass arrests and the destruction or removal of church property, part of CCP President Xi Jinping’s “sinicization of religion” policy. Religious groups and leaders who do not register with the official government-approved religious organizations are often arrested, imprisoned, and forced into “anti-cult” programs to “de-program” Christians. Earlier this year, USCIRF called on President Donald Trump to designate China as a “country of particular concern” (CPC) due to the CCP’s brutal oppression of Christians and other religious dissidents.

Fortunately, in most other states in America, the defunding is continuing as a federal appeals court recently issued a decision saying the defunding is fully Constitutional.

The One Big Beautiful Bill that Trump signed this summer withholds Medicaid funding from Planned Parenthood and other major abortion sellers, delivering a major victory to pro-life advocates seeking to end taxpayer support for organizations that kill babies in abortions.

The 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a lower court’s preliminary injunction, ruling that the measure in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act does not constitute an unconstitutional punishment.

“It instead uses Congress’ taxing and spending power to put appellees to a difficult choice: give up federal Medicaid funds and continue to provide abortion services or continue receiving such funds by abandoning the provision of abortion services,” Judge Gustavo A. Gelpí wrote in the opinion.

The provision bars Medicaid reimbursements for one year to organizations that kill babies in abortions and received more than $800,000 in Medicaid funds in fiscal year 2023 — criteria that primarily target Planned Parenthood affiliates.

Previously, a liberal federal judge blocked President Donald Trump’s administration from cutting off Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood in 22 states and Washington, D.C. U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani, an Obama appointee in Massachusetts, issued a preliminary injunction against the defunding provision.

Pro-life advocates had championed the law as a critical step to redirect taxpayer dollars away from abortion companies, ending federal taxpayer support to large entities like Planned Parenthood.

The ruling applied to a coalition of 22 states led by California, Connecticut and New York, plus the nation’s capital.

Talwani found that the states are “likely to prove that the law imposes an unconstitutional, retroactive condition on state participation in the Medicaid program,” which provides health coverage to low-income Americans. She described the provision as “impermissibly ambiguous,” noting that allowing it to take effect would “increase the percentage of patients unable to receive birth control and preventive screenings, thereby prompting an increase in states’ healthcare costs.”

Planned Parenthood, which sued separately and saw 48 of its abortion centers close this year."'

"WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews) — Experts testified on Capitol Hill Tuesday about the far-left Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), including its role in the Biden administration’s discrimination against Christian and conservative Americans.

The U.S. House Judiciary Committee hearing, titled “Partisan and Profitable: The SPLC’s Influence on Federal Civil Rights Policy,” was billed as examining SPLC’s “coordinated efforts with the Biden-Harris Administration to target Christian and conservative Americans and deprive them of their constitutional rights to free speech and free association,” as well as its “history, funding, and work to silence conservative and Christian Americans for their beliefs.”

Andrew Sypher, executive vice president of field operations for campus activist group Turning Point USA (TPUSA), suggested that SPLC’s placement of TPUSA on its “hate map” played a role in the climate of actual hate the group’s chapters and founder, the murdered Charlie Kirk, received from leftists.

“I was standing just 10 feet to his left when Charlie was assassinated at Utah Valley University—an act later condoned and justified by some of the very people who labeled him and Turning Point a hate group,” Sypher said. “At places like Berkeley, where we recently held a pre-scheduled event, violent protesters gathered and injured civilians. This mirrors years of organized protests involving groups like Antifa: breaking doors, destroying property, setting fires, and threatening attendees. Since Charlie’s death, political violence against conservatives has only risen.”

Family Research Council (FRC) president Tony Perkins testified about how his organization experienced the fruits of SPLC’s efforts in 2012, when would-be mass shooter Floyd Lee Corkins II entered the lobby of FRC’s headquarters armed with SPLC’s “hate group” list and planning to, in his own words, “kill as many as possible and smear the Chick-fil-A sandwiches in victims’ faces, and kill the guard.” Nobody was killed thanks to the intervention of security guard Leo Johnson, who was wounded, but the link between SPLC’s message and a violent left-wing extremist was far more linear than common claims of “dangerous extremism” on the political Right.

“Despite its connection to the attempted mass murder, and requests from FRC to remove FRC from the list, the SPLC has refused to acknowledge the link between its listing of FRC and this shooting or remove FRC from the ‘hate map’ to this day,” Perkins said. 

He went on to note that SPLC has “worked closely with federal government, including training Biden DOJ prosecutors” (since ended by the Trump administration); “touts its own work influencing local law enforcement”; has so-called “Learning for Justice resources, previously entitled Teaching Tolerance, [which] are widely distributed to public schools, with an associated magazine being sent to 450,000 educators twice a year”; and that companies including Amazon, Spotify, GuideStar, PayPal, Alphabet, Mastercard, Amazon, Meta, Salesforce and Starbucks have all been swayed by SPLC to discriminate against customers whose views it opposes.

Perhaps most worryingly, Perkins said, SPLC has ties to violent far-left “resistance” group Antifa. “Its affiliation with Megan Squire is one prominent example,” he explained. “Squire is a former professor at Elon University in North Carolina, who subsequently served as the SPLC’s Deputy Director for Data Analytics and Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) from March 2022 to March 2025. A data science researcher and expert in cyber security and database management, Squire shared her ‘intelligence’ with ANTIFA cells and others.”

Next came Daily Signal senior editor Tyler O’Neil, who noted that while SPLC’s hate map “has inspired violence, it also likely helps pay the bills. According to its most recent Form 990, the SPLC had $786.7 million in net assets as of Oct. 2024. The SPLC also has millions in offshore accounts.9 As the Capital Research Center’s Robert Stilson noted, the SPLC is wealthier than the Make-a-Wish Foundation of America, the YMCA of the USA, the Special Olympics, Chicago’s Field Museum, and many colleges and universities, including Tuskegee University.”

“In the fall of 2021, after President Biden took office, then-SPLC President Margaret Huang bragged in a donor meeting that many agencies in the administration had reached out to ‘solicit our expertise’ to ‘help shape the policies’ to ‘counter the domestic terrorism threat,’” O’Neil continued. “Public records requests have fleshed out the close relationship between the administration and the SPLC. The Biden White House hosted SPLC leaders and staff at least 18 times. Dietra Trent, executive director at the White House initiative on historically black colleges and universities, met with SPLC staff on July 5, 2022. The FBI cited the SPLC in its notorious memo on ‘radical traditional Catholics,’ before rescinding the memo after a brave whistleblower published it. President Biden nominated Nancy Abudu, an SPLC attorney, to a federal judgeship on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. The White House also touted the SPLC’s role in its strategy to combat antisemitism.”

“Documents also show that Kristen Clarke, the assistant attorney general for civil rights who oversaw the Civil Rights Division, solicited advice from then-SPLC President Huang, and visited the SPLC on March 6, 2023,” he added. “Documents also show that SPLC research manager R.G. Cravens spoke at a symposium for DOJ prosecutors on Nov. 7, 2023. He gave ‘an overview of the disturbing trends and developments within the anti-LGBTQ movement, including the surge in threats and violence against transgender people, children, and their caregivers.’”

SPLC has long been notorious for labeling mainstream Christian and/or conservative organizations – such as Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), the David Horowitz Freedom Center, and Jihad Watch – “hate groups” to be distrusted by the public and blacklisted from various online platforms and services.

Over the past few years, SPLC was forced to make a public apology and pay $3.4 million in defamation damages to Maajid Nawaz’s Quilliam Foundation, ousted co-founder Morris Dees for alleged “inappropriate conduct,” and has endured testimony from insiders that the organization is a “highly profitable scam” and that Dees saw “civil rights work mainly as a marketing tool for bilking gullible Northern liberals.”'

"(LifeSiteNews) — There was a time when standing quietly on a public street in the U.K. was not a crime. That time has passed.

Isabel Vaughan-Spruce is a pro-life charitable volunteer in Birmingham. She was recently charged by West Midlands Police and the Crown Prosecution Service for the simple act of standing in the vicinity of an abortion clinic.

Her case marks the first time a person has been accused of violating the country’s new abortion “buffer zone” law, which went into effect on October 2024 under Section 9 of the Public Order Act 2023. The law prohibits “influencing” anyone’s decision to access, provide, or facilitate abortion services within 150 meters of an abortion center. Notably, it does not mention silent prayer. Yet Vaughan-Spruce is now facing criminal consequences for doing precisely that.

A recent video posted on the X account of ADF International reveals the latest harassment she has endured. The footage shows a policeman telling her that to stand “directly outside” the clinic is illegal.

The incident is not an isolated event. It is the culmination of years of direct targeting.

Vaughan-Spruce is no stranger to the police. In November 2022, she was arrested while standing silently on the sidewalk in Birmingham. When officers questioned her, she explained: “I might be praying in my head, but I’ve said nothing out loud.” That arrest — also captured on video — went viral and sparked international outrage.

Weeks later, she was arrested again for the “thoughtcrime” of silent prayer. At the time, a total of six police officers attended the scene, with one confirming to her that “you’ve said you’re engaging in prayer, which is the offense.”

In the first case, the courts said that the evidence against her could not be proved. Eventually, the courts sided with her and the police had to apologize for their efforts in 2023. In 2024, Vaughan-Spruce sued West Midlands Police and won £13,000 ($16,850) in damages, with the court acknowledging wrongful arrest and other violations that its officers conducted.

Under the new national buffer zone law, Vaughan-Spruce, who serves as the co-director of the March for Life UK and the campaign director for 40 Days for Life Birmingham, has again found herself under investigation.

Earlier this year she was again approached by a policeman while near an abortion center. A video shows a member of the West Midlands Police arguing with her stating, “With you being the leader of an organization, it’s causing people harassment and stress,” without providing any evidence.

Fast forward to today: it has just been confirmed that a “live investigation” of Vaughan-Spruce is yet again underway.

On December 16, the Attorney General confirmed in Parliament — in response to a question from former Home Secretary Suella Braverman — that Crown Police issued proceedings against her under Section 9 of the Public Order Act 2023.

Oddly, Vaughan-Spruce herself was never informed of the charges. She only learned of it later via a letter from West Midlands Police.

ADF International has said that CPS guidance on the law states that silent prayer of itself is not enough to be illegal unless it is accompanied by “overt” activity. Yet Vaughan-Spruce has always insisted that she has never done anything rising to that level. Nor do the police have any solid proof showing she has.

The real reason Vaughan-Spruce is being persecuted seems to be that the U.K. wants to prohibit any and all opposition to abortion, even prayer itself. What the government appears to be testing is not merely enforcement of buffer zones, but the limits of state power over a person’s conscience. Talk about 1984-level tyranny.

Despite the harassment, Vaughan-Spruce continues to quietly yet boldly witness to the truth of the evil of abortion in her country. Pro-lifers the world over should replicate her admirable efforts and offer up prayers for her this Christmas season as she continues to endure this heavy trial, all for saving lives."

"FLORIDA (LifeSiteNews) — Pope Leo’s Nuncio to the United States has refused the request of America’s best-known pro-life priest from offering a funeral Mass for his mother, who died at 91 on December 15.

Cardinal Christophe Pierre replied Thursday to a December 16 request for permission from Frank Pavone, saying “I believe that the limitations imposed by your canonical status, compounded by the complexity of your public profile, make it impossible for the request to be considered.”

Pavone, one of the most well-known pro-life priests around the world, was laicized by personal order of Pope Francis in 2022, in a move widely believed to be punishment for Pavone’s stance on abortion which was so opposite that of Francis, who welcomed abortionists and population controllers into the Vatican.

The previous Nuncio to the United States, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, denounced Fr. Pavone’s laicization as “unjust and illegitimate punishment” and an attempt “to feed a climate of terror among the clergy so as to constrain them into servile and fearful obedience.”

Despite the startling charges of blasphemy and disobedience which the Vatican leveled against Pavone as the reason for the decision, Vatican Cardinal Gerhard Müller told LifeSiteNews at the time that it was “not justified” and “political.” The former head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith added: “I think there was truly a lot of pressure [from] the Democratic Party.”

Bishop Joseph Strickland, then-ordinary of Tyler, Texas, also condemned Francis’s blasphemy accusation against Pavone by saying on Twitter, “The blasphemy is that this holy priest is canceled while an evil president promotes the denial of truth & the murder of the unborn at every turn, Vatican officials promote immorality & denial of the deposit of faith & priests promote gender confusion devastating lives…evil.”

On Thursday Pavone told LifeSiteNews in response to the denial of his request for his mother’s funeral: “I do not need any lectures about Canon law. I need common sense, compassion, and what Pope Francis called ‘accompaniment,’ which the Vatican seems to love to talk about rather than practice.”

LifeSiteNews traveled to Rome when the laicization order was issued to deliver a petition of over 45,000 signatures to the Vatican Dicastery for Clergy asking Pope Francis to reverse his decision. The petition declared, “This outrageous attack on the pro-life movement by the so-called ‘listening Church’ is a mockery of justice.”

Countless pro-life activists protested. Sister Deidre “Dede” Byrne called Pavone’s laicization a “travesty” and raised concerns about the Vatican’s favorable treatment of heterodox and abusive priests. Byrne pointed to Jesuit priest Fr. Marko Rupnik, who has not been laicized despite being excommunicated and removed from the Jesuits after allegations of sexually abusing religious sisters and absolving one in confession.

The famed Planned Parenthood director-turned pro-life activist Abby Johnson also weighed in.

In comments to LifeSiteNews, many pro-life leaders expressed profound disbelief that Pavone, arguably the most outspoken Catholic cleric in defense of the unborn, would be subjected to censure from the Vatican.

Reggie Littlejohn, president of pro-life organization Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, stated that Pavone “is a beloved, generous priest, intensely committed to the Catholic faith and the protection of the unborn.”

“He is one of the finest fruits of the Catholic Church and deserves its support in defending a key teaching about the sanctity of life,” Littlejohn said, adding that “it is a travesty that the Vatican has issued a decision dismissing him from the priesthood.”

“He has had no chance to defend himself, yet the letter states there is ‘no possibility of appeal.’ His summary dismissal without the chance even to know that he was being considered for laicization is an indefensible injustice perpetrated against one of the most magnificent priests of our time. Those who love Fr. Pavone should pray for him – and for the souls of those responsible for this grotesque malfeasance.”

Former Planned Parenthood director-turned pro-life advocate Abby Johnson, who was mentored by Pavone during her conversion to Catholicism, was incredulous at the decision, comparing Pavone’s treatment to that of dissenting priest James Martin, SJ who, she said, “continues to move up the Vatican chain of command.”

Media personalities were less polite in their characterizations of the situation. Newsmax host Greg Kelly posted on Twitter at the time: “What the hell is going on??? Father Frank PAVONE is a HERO. How many priests who MOLESTED CHILDREN have been allowed to stay in the priesthood, yet they KICK OUT Father Frank for making the case Against Abortion. SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG!”'

Charlotte "Bishop" Officially Bans Altar Rails For Communion As Of January 16!!!

 In the recent past (October and November) I posted several articles about the attack on the TLM and, yes, even the so-called reverent novus ordo Masses in the diocese of Charlette.

Well, it seems that that "leaked document" has come to fruition!

"(LifeSiteNews) — Bishop Michael Martin of the Diocese of Charlotte has officially ordered that altar rails and kneelers no longer be used for the reception of Holy Communion.

“The use of altar rails, kneelers, and prie-dieus are not to be utilized for the reception of Communion in public celebrations by January 16, 2026,” instructed Martin in a Pastoral Letter on Norms for Holy Communion issued Wednesday. In keeping with this rule, he ordered churches to remove all “temporary or movable fixtures used for kneeling” for Holy Communion by January 16.

The bishop further commanded “[c]lergy, catechists, ministers of Holy Communion, and teachers” to instruct communicants to receive Holy Communion while standing, citing the fact that it is the “normative posture” of the U.S. “They are not to teach that some other manner is better, preferred, more efficacious, etc.,” wrote Martin.

He recognized, nevertheless, that the faithful continue to have the right to kneel for Holy Communion.

In the December 17 letter, Bishop Martin also encouraged parishes to distribute the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ under “both kinds,” that is, in the visible forms of both bread and wine, “whenever the Pastor deems it appropriate and fruitful, provided that the faithful have been well-formed” and “there is no danger of profanation of the Eucharist.”

Because altar rails help the elderly and those with other physical impediments to receive Holy Communion while kneeling, the abandonment of their use will have the effect of forcing some people to receive the Eucharist while standing.

Liturgist Dr. Peter Kwasniewski recently affirmed that “even according to the rules that govern the Novus Ordo, there is absolutely no basis for a bishop to oppose the use or the construction of altar rails in churches.” He shared a catechesis on altar rails showing that they “have a basis in the historical and theological dimensions of the Mass, and may be utilized and even promoted, in light of recent legislation.”

While Martin has claimed that it is “absurd” to “instruct the faithful that kneeling is more reverent than standing,” he admitted in his Wednesday pastoral letter that certain liturgical practices and “ritual elements” such as “music, vestments,” and “use of incense” can mark Masses with “greater reverence.” He noted this under the title “The Principle of Progressive Solemnity.” 

Scripture itself highlights bending of the knee as a gesture of reverence proper to Our Lord Jesus Christ.

“That in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those that are in heaven, on earth, and under the earth,” St. Paul wrote in a letter to the Philippians (2:10).

As God Himself, the Eucharist deserves nothing less than a posture of profound reverence. Whereas the posture of kneeling is proper to worship of God Himself, standing is a posture one uses when interacting with an equal. 

Accordingly, the tradition of the Catholic Church for many centuries, unbroken until after the Second Vatican Council, is that the lay faithful receive the Blessed Sacrament, administered by a priest (his hands having been consecrated for the handling of the sacred Eucharist) on the tongue while kneeling. 

Furthermore, a recent study confirmed that traditional liturgical practices surrounding the Eucharist, including the manner in which He is received, increase belief in the Real Presence of Our Lord in the Eucharist.

In fact, Dr. Natalie Lindemann, the author of the study, suggested reinstalling altar rails and offering kneelers during Holy Communion at churches to increase belief in the Real Presence.

The Liturgy Guy has pointed out that the Diocese of Charlotte inherited from former Bishop Peter Jugis a relatively high number of vocations to the priesthood, suggesting that this could be related to the prevalent use of altar rails within the diocese.

Of the diocese’s current seminarians, “75% of those young men come from parishes where the use of altar rails or communion kneelers has been the norm,” the Liturgy Guy noted, pointing to the study that shows reverent Eucharistic practices increase belief in the Real Presence.

The abandonment of altar rails has been a priority near and dear to Bishop Martin’s heart, according to The Pillar, which previously reported “that’s his big thing, he’s really focused on that.”

In late May, a draft was leaked of a letter from Martin detailing plans for restrictions on traditional practices within the liturgy, including a ban on altar rails and kneelers, less than a week after Martin announced sweeping bans on the traditional Mass.

Martin stipulated that “in new constructions and renovations of sacred spaces, altar rails are not permitted” and that “[m]oveable altar rails should be removed, and permanently fixed altar rails should no longer be used.”

“The placement of a prei dieu (a kneeler) for the reception of communion is not appropriate,” he added."'
