"(LifeSiteNews) — Archbishop Georg Gänswein, the papal nuncio to Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia, during an interview released last weekend said Pope Leo XIV should end the restrictions on the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) and return to the norms of Pope Benedict XVI’s motu proprio Summorum Pontificum because it brought unity to the Church.

Gänswein, during an interview that aired on December 7 with the German Catholic television network,  Katholisches Fernsehen (K-TV), noted that the Tridentine Mass, which nourished the faith of the Church for centuries, cannot suddenly become invalid or invaluable now, and questioned why Pope Francis promulgated Traditionis Custodes, when the majority of bishops were satisfied with his predecessor’s motu proprio Summorum Pontificum. The former personal secretary to Pope Benedict XVI then emphasized that Summorum Pontificum was the right path to fostering liturgical peace in the Roman rite, and he hopes it will be restored by Pope Leo.

Gänswein is the latest prelate to express his hope that Pope Francis’ 2021 motu proprio will be rescinded for a return to Summorum Pontificum.

“It is precisely the (TLM) that has allowed the Church not only to live but to live well for centuries, and the sacred nourished by it and from it,” he said. “It can’t be that it was valid and valuable yesterday and then no longer valid tomorrow. So this is an unnatural situation.”

Gänswein, appearing to cite Vatican journalist Diane Montagna’s report from over the summer on the overall results of the 2020 survey of bishops conducted by the then Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) that was believed to have prompted Pope Francis’ promulgation of Traditionis Custodes, stressed that the vast majority of bishops were ultimately satisfied with the implementation of Summorum Pontificum.

“The results were never officially published, but, of course, people are aware of them, and the result ultimately was that satisfaction was achieved,” the nuncio said. “(Summorum Pontificum was seen as) a path to peace, especially in the liturgy, the important place of religious life, and there should be no changes.”

“Why Pope Francis (imposed the restrictions) anyway is and remains a mystery to me,” he added.

Asked what he would like to see for the future of the Tridentine Mass, Gänswein said Pope Leo should restore Summorum Pontificum, which will allow for unity in the Roman rite.

“I consider Pope Benedict’s wise regulation (in Summorum Pontificum) to be the right path, and that has now been the right path for over 10 years, and we should continue on this path without complaint, without restriction,” he said. “I can only hope that Pope Leo will also go in this direction and simply continue the pacification, so that we can then simply look forward to working together.”

Indeed, since Pope Leo’s election in May, several prelates have urged the new pontiff to end the sweeping restrictions on the celebration of the TLM and return to the norms established under Summorum Pontificum.

In June, Cardinal Raymond Burke, who celebrated a Latin Mass inside St. Peter’s Basilica just a few months later for the annual Summorum Pontificum Pilgrimage, said he had already spoken to Pope Leo about the persecution of the faithful who attend the Latin Mass:

It is my hope that Leo XIV will put an end to the present persecution to the faithful in the Church who desire to worship God according to the more ancient usage of the Roman Rite, this persecution from within the Church.

I have already had occasion to express that to the Holy Father. It is my hope that he will – as soon as it is possible – take up the study of this question and try to restore the situation as it was after Summorum Pontificum and even to develop what Pope Benedict XVI had so wisely and lovingly legislated for the Church.

Cardinal Robert Sarah, during an October interview, revealed that he too had the opportunity to speak with Pope Leo about ending the restrictions placed on the TLM during a September private audience. Cardinal Kurt Koch, who was recently appointed as president of Aid to the Church in Need by Pope Leo, stated in August that it is “desirable” for the 267th pontiff to end the restrictions on the Latin Mass and return to Summorum Pontificum.

“Personally, I would appreciate it if we could find a good way forward here,” the Swiss prelate said. “Pope Benedict XVI has shown a helpful way by believing that something that has been practiced for centuries cannot simply be banned. That convinced me.”

"PAPIRI, Nigeria (LifeSiteNews) — The Nigerian government has rescued 100 students who were originally abducted from the St. Mary Catholic boarding school in Papiri on November 21.

In a statement on Monday, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu expressed his gratitude to the security agencies responsible for the students’ safe return and promised the further release of the remaining 115 hostages.

“I have been briefed on the safe return of 100 students from the Catholic School in Niger State,” stated President Tinubu. “I rejoice with Governor Umar Bago and commend our security agencies for their steadfast work in ensuring the safe return of the students to their families since the unfortunate incident on November 21.”

According to the Catholic Diocese of Kontagora, 50 schoolchildren escaped captivity and safely returned to their families, reported Aid to the Church in Need.

Previous estimates of those taken hostage were close to 315, with most being taken away by gunmen riding motorcycles. In a BBC interview, the father of a hostage expressed the horror that the Catholic schoolchildren faced at the hands of their abductors.

“They [the children] were being trafficked on foot the way shepherds control their herds,” said the distressed father. “Some children were falling and the men would kick them and instruct them to stand up. The gunmen were on about 50 motorcycle bikes while controlling them.”

Pope Leo XIV initially issued a heartfelt plea for the release of the hostages after his Mass for the Solemnity of Christ the King. Pope Leo expressed his “immense sadness” over the kidnapping in the heavily persecuted African region, which has experienced several similar mass kidnappings of both clergy and laypeople.

“I feel deep sorrow, especially for the many boys and girls who have been abducted, and for their anguished families,” said Pope Leo. “I make a heartfelt appeal that the hostages be immediately released, and I urge the competent authorities to take appropriate and timely decisions to ensure their liberation.”

With most hostages still held by their captors, the Nigerian President stressed the need to intensify efforts to secure their release and prevent future kidnapping.

“My directive to our security forces remains that all the students and other abducted Nigerians across the country must be rescued and brought back home safely,” said President Tinubu. “We must account for all the victims.”

"PARIS (LifeSiteNews) — To mark the 120th anniversary of a 1905 law which inaugurated the separation of Church and state this week, the President of France delivered a national address praising the country’s secular framework on the same date that historically initiated significant conflict between the French government and the Catholic Church.

The speech, aimed to rally citizens to republican ideals, was broadcast from the Élysée Palace on December 9 and commemorated the legislation that redefined the legal and institutional role of religion in public life.

 From his desk in the Salon Doré, President Emmanuel Macron claimed the 1905 law is central to contemporary French liberties. He praised the fact the secular settlement “does not impose any belief on the citizen” and remains “neutral; it does not distinguish between consciences, thus making them free.”

In his remarks, Macron asserted that the “secular Republic” means France does not represent “an identity born of cultural, religious, or particular origins,” and praised the 1905 law as “the fulfilment of the French Revolution.”

The president linked the law closely to France’s education system, saying public schooling was “inseparable from secularism” and provided “a positive knowledge free from any religious, cultural, or identity assignment.”

Further emphasizing the role of teachers in transmitting this secular curriculum, Macron paid tribute to Samuel Paty and Dominique Bernard, who were killed in Islamist attacks, calling them “illuminating examples” of the values the Republic seeks to defend.

The president did not mention the case of Father Jacques Hamel, who was the victim of a high-profile, religiously-motivated Islamist terror attack in 2016, when his throat was slit by two Muslim attackers while celebrating Mass.

Macron – who began his career as an investment banker with Rothschild & Co. – further insisted that the Republic must remain “vigilant” against attempts by extremist groups that would threaten this framework and that “preserving the 1905 law, the school, and with it, secularism, means preserving our freedom, each individual’s freedom, and therefore everyone’s freedom.”

The Catholic Church historically took a different view when the law first came into force. Two months after its enactment, in February 1906, Pope St. Pius X issued the encyclical Vehementer Nos which condemned the statute as a rupture in France’s historic relationship with the Holy See. The pope said the law had “violently severed the age-old ties by which your nation was united to the Apostolic See” and called the event “disastrous for civil society as for religion.”

The encyclical rejected the principle of Church-state separation as an “absolutely false thesis, a very pernicious error.” Pius X argued that the legislation placed the Church “under the domination of civil power” by transferring the administration of religious property to lay associations regulated by the state, leaving bishops and clergy without legal control over churches, seminaries, or parish goods.

The saintly pontiff warned that the law’s provisions “trample” long-established ecclesiastical property rights by declaring pre-Revolution churches to be state or municipal property.

Following the implementation of the 1905 law, French Catholics experienced severe limitations on their freedom to worship, alongside incursions by the state toward Church assets and personnel.

Historians record that between 1901 and 1906, the government’s earlier religious association laws led to the exile of thousands of members of religious orders and the closure of most Catholic schools across France. These expulsions and suppressions were referenced by Pius X, who described “the dispersal and disbanding of religious orders, and the rejection of their members … to utter destitution.”

Soldiers invaded la Grande Chartreuse, the iconic mother house of the ascetic and contemplative Carthusian order, and forcibly closed the monastery down, expelling its religious brothers. Religious houses across the nation experienced governmental interference.

During this period, religious symbols were removed from courts and public buildings. Religious instruction was restricted in schools. Catholic charitable institutions such as hospitals were seized by the state and frequently not returned. Pius X summarized these measures in his encyclical, listing “the secularization of schools and hospitals,” the removal of clerics’ academic exemptions from military service, and the prohibition of “any act or emblem that could, in any way, evoke religion” in public institutions.

As France marked the anniversary, Macron presented the 1905 law as an essential element of national cohesion and contemporary freedoms. Historical documents issued by the Catholic Church at the time of its passage, however, describe the measures as a forcible break with France’s civilizational and religious inheritance and records the law as a catalyst for a series of breaches by the state of Christians’ freedoms of property, education, and religious observance."

In one of the newly discovered books, Why Can’t I Finish Healing?, published in 2002, Fernández lasciviously wrote: 

A body can be striking when dressed appropriately—clothes that awaken sensuality by accentuating interesting curves, according to the body’s shape. The sensuality of tanned shoulders and arms is emphasized with a t-shirt. Elegance is highlighted, concealing any extra weight with a black vest and white sleeves. If, in a moment of dissatisfaction, when someone needs to find something to look forward to or enjoy, a body can appear impressive, wonderful, indispensable, then a body can appear as something breathtaking, marvelous, indispensable.

He then laments:

But then, with routine, and by discovering other, different bodies, one realizes that that mass of flesh was nothing extraordinary, that it has imperfections, shortcomings, and pains like all bodies, that it deteriorates and loses its allure with the passage of time.

 In a second book, titled Spiritual Theology: Spiritual Depth in Action (2005), wrote:

It consists of scanning the entire body, paying full attention to one organ at a time. It is very important to note that this is not about “thinking” about that organ, imagining it, or visualizing it. It is more precisely about “feeling” it, perceiving it with your senses. It is about calmly experiencing the sensations of each organ, without judging whether those sensations are good or bad, but rather trying to allow that organ to relax and release tension. It is best to do this more or less in this order: jaw, cheekbones, throat, nose, eyes, forehead (and all the small facial muscles that you can feel), scalp, neck and nape, shoulders. The key is to linger slowly on one place at a time, without letting your imagination wander to another organ or another idea, until we feel that the entire body has the same tone. There is no rush.

In a third text discussed by El Wanderer, To Free Yourself from Anxiety and Impatience (2009), he once again used the imagery of orgasm to describe moments where life is “lived to the fullest”: 

When we can pause, and an object or person captures our full attention for a moment, that moment is lived to the fullest. When our entire being is unified in a single direction, then we achieve a true encounter, a fusion, a perfect union, even if only for a few minutes. This doesn’t necessarily mean physical stillness, because this experience can also occur amidst the excitement of intense activity. This happens, for example, during an orgasm between two people who love each other.

“A person—a priest, bishop, and cardinal, to boot—capable of thinking, writing, and publishing such downright pornographic paragraphs has a serious problem,” wrote the El Wanderer commentator. “And it is precisely this problem, among other reasons, that explains why he was the author of Fiducia Supplicans,” which permits the “non-liturgical” blessing of irregular and same-sex “couples.”

“That cursed document has given rise not only to enormous confusion within the Church, but also to immeasurable scandal and pain among the faithful,” declared the El Wanderer author.

Using this heavy equipment, Israelis often buried them in shallow, unmarked graves and, on other occasions, left the corpses to rot in areas too dangerous for recovery.

An investigative report from CNN released last Wednesday documented the likely violations of international law utilizing hundreds of videos and photos from around Zikim in northern Gaza where the apparent crimes took place.

As other human rights groups have documented, the mainstream cable outlet spoke with two ex-military personnel who witnessed similar practices of using bulldozers to bury Palestinian corpses in shallow, unmarked graves.

One Israeli army (IDF) whistleblower who served in early 2024 said that “nine bodies of unarmed Palestinians” were left decomposing for almost two days around his base near the Netzarim Corridor. “The smell of the rotting corpses became overwhelming as dogs scavenged the remains.”

He recalled a commander directing bulldozer operators “to cover up the bodies with sand.”

“Just to see this amount of bodies around you, when you see they’re unarmed, when you see dogs eating them to play with the bones and legs and skull. It’s terrible,” he told CNN.

To his knowledge, no photos were taken of the bodies to help identify them, and he lamented, “The families maybe don’t know what happened with their loved ones.”

Israelis kill starving Palestinians

Breaking the Silence (BTS), an NGO that provides a forum for IDF veteran testimonies regarding Israeli army war crimes against the occupied Palestinian people, affirmed that it had received numerous eyewitness accounts describing similar practices.

Another former soldier, a captain, said he was never given directives from the military on how they should treat bodies of Palestinians they had killed in Gaza. He recalled an incident when one such corpse blocked a road and officers in the command center directed a bulldozer to push the body into a shallow grave on the side of the road.

“We were never given any protocol or any order of how to handle at all any bodies of either combatant or non-combatant that we came across in the war,” he said.

CNN reported that the IDF did not respond to their questions regarding these testimonies of their former soldiers.

The cable outlet also referenced a report released in January 2024 documenting the IDF’s use of bulldozers to desecrate 16 Palestinian cemeteries in Gaza. This included “leaving gravestones ruined, soil upturned and, in some cases, bodies unearthed.”

Corroborating the testimonies is satellite imagery confirming bulldozing activity across the summer in the areas where Palestinians seeking flour and basic food supplies were killed by Israeli soldiers.

Graphic footage taken on September 11 shows Palestinians fleeing the Zikim area hauling sacks of flour beneath continuous gunfire.

“At least one person carrying flour appears to be shot from behind in the footage, with the gunfire seeming to come from the direction of an IDF position that CNN identified in satellite imagery,” the report reads.

Audio forensics expert Robert Maher of Montana State University examined the videos and determined the shots originated from around 340 meters (1,115 feet) from the filming location that CNN reports corresponds to the distance from the IDF position.

Israelis leave Palestinian corpses to be eaten by dogs

A second video reveals a group of unarmed Palestinians tending to the bodies of one dead person and another injured before they carry them away as gunfire continues.

In another case, two eyewitnesses recounted one deadly incident on June 15 when “shortly after the aid truck was surrounded, the Israeli military opened fire toward the vehicle, with many people appearing to have been shot and collapsing beneath the truck.”

Only several days later was a Palestinian ambulance crew allowed to access the scene with one civil defense worker reporting, “we were shocked by the scene.”

“The (bodies) we recovered were decomposed – they had clearly been there for a while, there were signs that dogs had eaten parts of them,” the witness said.

CNN corroborated the story with geolocated videos of the location revealing an overturned truck, a pile of debris, several decomposing bodies partially buried in the sand and even a nearby stray dog.

According to multiple reports, including human rights organizations, such blatant criminal acts by the Israeli army against destitute civilians have been standard throughout their genocidal operation in Gaza.

An IDF statement to CNN stated the army “does not intentionally shoot at innocent civilians,” though no definition of the term “innocent” is provided in the report.

75% of Jewish Israelis: ‘no innocent people in Gaza’

Likely due to heavy propaganda efforts within the Jewish Zionist community, a Hebrew University poll released in June confirmed that roughly 75% of Jewish Israelis agree with the statement “there are no innocent people in Gaza” where — at least since October 7, 2023 — there resided one million children.

A LifeSiteNews report released last March extensively documents the genocidal ideology of heretical religious Zionism that rationalizes the expelling or direct killing of the entire Palestinian population by Jews as a supposed fulfillment of biblical prophecy. Testimonies of massive numbers of children being assassinated are confirmed by many Israeli soldiers confessing to murdering children.

Additionally, Israeli outlet Haaretz published a report in June quoting IDF soldiers who said they were ordered by their superiors to fire upon desperate, starving Palestinians seeking humanitarian aid distribution, though they posed no threat to them.

An open-source investigation revealed in September that Israeli forces had killed almost 3,000 Palestinian aid-seekers and wounded nearly 20,000 others over the period of Israel’s U.S.-backed genocidal annihilation of Gaza.

Reliable reports on Monday confirm the deaths of 70,365 Palestinians in Gaza since October 7, 2023, the majority of whom are women and children. The number of injured has risen to 171,058, with many more trapped under rubble and inaccessible to rescue and civil defense teams.

Studies indicate the ministry’s death figures are most likely a significant undercount.
