"BUDRIO, Italy (LifeSiteNews) — An all-ages Pride event in Italy exposed children to pornographic materials.
As reported on June 11 by the Italian newspaper La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana, the municipality of Budrio, a town near Bologna in northern Italy, granted official patronage to “Piccolo Grande Pride” (“Little Big Pride”), an event held on June 7 and promoted as a Pride gathering for both adults and children. The event included activities specifically designed for children and teenagers, while also drawing criticism for the presence of sexually explicit material.
“The children and teenagers played, took part in an art workshop, and joined other ‘very colorful activities.’ At the stalls inside the Pride area there was an abundance of pornographic‑themed merchandise: anatomically shaped items representing male and female genitalia in various sizes and for different uses, along with postcards, stickers, and posters certainly not intended for minors — all potentially visible even to the youngest attendees. This confirms that the core of the homo‑ and trans‑related phenomenon retains an erotic character,” reported journalist Tommaso Scandroglio.
The event program also included discussions and classes addressing issues connected with gender and sexuality, including a session entitled “Imagined Worlds and the Dismantling of Heteronormativity” and an erotic illustration workshop.
Following the event, members of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s conservative Fratelli d’Italia party informed the Prefect of Bologna of “concerns” regarding the content available during the gathering.
As Scandroglio pointed out, the Budrio event is linked to a broader pattern of initiatives aimed at involving children in Pride-related activities. In a 2013 Pride parade in Turin, children from same-sex households participated in the opening procession, an event that became known as “Family Pride.” A similar pattern was used some years later in a Pride parade in Palermo, Sicily.

Scandroglio refers to the presence of children at such events as “Baby Pride.” He also recalls debates surrounding sexuality education and gender-related programs in Europe. In 2010, the WHO Regional Office for Europe signed a document titled “Standards for Sexuality Education in Europe,” produced by so-called “experts.” The guidelines were intended to assist “policy makers, educational and health authorities and specialists” involved in sexuality education across European countries and has been translated in fifteen languages.
Claiming that the “informal sexuality education” provided by natural families is insufficient, the WHO document promotes a “unified approach to sexuality, gender and human rights education.”
“In this document, it was deliberately decided to call for an approach in which sexuality education starts from birth,” the text reads. “Sexuality is a central aspect of being human throughout life and encompasses sex, gender identities and roles, sexual orientation, eroticism, pleasure, intimacy and reproduction.”
In 2014, the National Office Against Racial Discrimination, an agency operating under the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers, published a document titled “Educating Diversity at School,” consisting of three booklets aimed at teachers in primary and secondary schools. Following public criticism of their sexually explicit content, the Ministry of Education withdrew the materials.
The Budrio event has therefore become the latest episode in an ongoing Italian debate over the involvement of children in programs connected with LGBT advocacy and so-called “sexuality” education. Supporters of such activities typically describe them as promoting diversity, inclusion and respect, while actually exposing minors to erotic themes inappropriate for children."
