All Senate Democrats Vote Against Bill To Criminalize Infanticide! That Includes 13 -- Count Them 13 "Catholics"!!

In an article from lifesitenews.com and written by Matt Lamb, you will see the continuation of the "great" apostasy among those who claim to be members of the Catholic Church, yet these scoundrels are -- whether they believe it or not -- automatically ex-communicated by virtue of their staunch support for the killing of the pre-born, including infanticide!!

All Senate Democrats vote against bill to criminalize infanticide - LifeSite

Thu Jan 23, 2025 - 10:27 am EST

"WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews) — Democratic senators once again voted against protecting babies who survive abortion from infanticide.

The Senate voted 52 to 47 on Wednesday to advance Senate Bill 6, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Act. However, 60 votes were needed to end cloture and advance the bill for a final vote. Democrats regularly oppose efforts to protect babies from infanticide, and it is arguably the official position of the party that there should be no sanctions for killing living human beings who survive abortions.

The bill would strengthen a measure passed in 2002 by providing for imprisonment of abortionists who fail to provide care to a baby who survives an abortion.

Every Republican voted for the bill, except Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN), who did not vote due to a family matter. A spokesperson told The Hill that he supported the bill. All 47 Democrats voted against the bill, with some explicitly saying they believed the bill would threaten a woman’s ability to kill her baby through abortion.

As LifeSiteNews previously reported, the law would mandate that abortion-surviving newborns be shown the “same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence” as would be given following an intended birth, and then be “immediately transported and admitted to a hospital.”

Violating physicians would face up to five years in prison, and those who go beyond willful negligence and commit an “overt act” to kill the newborn would be punished under the existing federal murder statute.

Prior to the vote, Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune called on Democrats to support the bill and also criticized the “supposed right to kill unborn babies.”

“This shouldn’t be a controversial bill,” Sen. Thune said. “We should all be able to agree that a baby born alive after an attempted abortion must be protected.” He said he expected Senate Democrats would oppose the bill.

“Why are they going to vote like that?” he asked. He said, “most Democrats” would oppose infanticide, though the “moral line… appears to be slipping.”

He said that recognizing the “humanity” of a baby who survives an abortion will “inadvertently” lead Democrats to recognize “the humanity of the unborn child,” calling them “afraid” to do so.

“Once you recognize the humanity of the newly born baby, it gets a little harder that that child wasn’t human just a few minutes ago simply because he or she wasn’t yet born,” Thune said.

He added, “there’s nothing more important to Democrats than abortion.”

Democrats indeed did cite abortion in their defense of why they voted against protecting born, breathing human beings from infanticide.

Sen. Durbin of Illinois claimed that the bill could “make it harder for women to access” abortion.

Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania also cited Roe v. Wade in his opposition.

“I’ve always stood on the side of Roe and a woman’s right to make her own health care choices,” Fetterman wrote on X (formerly Twitter), euphemistically referring to the murder of children. “It’s absurd to mandate criminalization because of those choices.”

“Any bill that does so, including the Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act, is a NO from me,” he added.

The Democratic Party’s official position, as detailed by its leaders, is that abortion should be available through all nine months of pregnancy with virtually no restrictions. Democratic governors, in addition to Democratic senators, have voiced their opposition to strong legal protections for babies who survive abortion.

Failed 2024 Democratic Party vice presidential nominee and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, for example, signed legislation in Minnesota to lower the care requirement for babies who survive abortions.

Former Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam also detailed his views on what the law should say and what current law is, based on his experience as a doctor.

“So in this particular example, if the mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen: The infant would be delivered; the infant would be kept comfortable,” Northam said in January 2019, responding to an extreme bill in Virginia to legalize abortions through the moment of birth.

He then said, “the infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desire,” implying that the baby would not be resuscitated if the family wanted the baby to die.

“[A]nd then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother,” he said."'

Any Attempt To “Abolish” The Traditional Mass Would Be A “Diabolical Project” That “Seeks To Break With The Church Of Christ,” Said Cardinal Robert Sarah

I must repeat the title of my article: Any Attempt To “Abolish” The Traditional Mass Would Be A “Diabolical Project” That “Seeks To Break With The Church Of Christ,” Said Cardinal Robert Sarah...

(My emphasis.)

Break with the Church of Christ?

What exactly does that mean?  Or, should I say, how did the good Cardinal mean that?

Literally?

Figuratively?

If literally, then he, for all practical purposes, has labeled such a diabolical move -- if it does take place -- as a massive apostasy from the Catholic Church and the Mass of the ages!

(Luther's Protestant Revolt of the 16th century was exactly that.)

Cardinal Sarah: Plans to ‘abolish’ Latin Mass would be ‘diabolical’ - LifeSite

Wed Jan 22, 2025 - 8:42 am EST

MILAN (LifeSiteNews) — Any attempt to “abolish” the traditional Mass would be a “diabolical project” that “seeks to break with the Church of Christ,” said Cardinal Robert Sarah this week.

“In the history of the liturgy there is growth and progress, but not rupture,” noted Sarah at an event Monday.

Drawing from Pope Benedict XVI’s now famous remark, Sarah made it his own, stating that “what was holy for previous generations remains holy and great for us, and cannot suddenly be forbidden or even judged harmful. It is good for all of us to preserve the riches that have grown in the faith and prayer of the Church and to give them their rightful place.”

Sarah – who served as prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments (CDW) from 2014-2021 – expanded his harsh criticism of any attempt to abolish the traditional Mass (Latin Mass) by warning that it would be a rejection of Church history.

He stated:

Hence the plan to definitively abolish the traditional Tridentine Mass, a rite that dates back to St. Gregory the Great, a liturgy that is 1,600 years old, a Mass celebrated by so many saints: St. Padre Pio, St. Philip Neri, St. John Mary Vianney: the Curé of Ars, St Francis. de Sales, St. Josemaria Escrivá, etc. And all the way back to Pope Gregory the Great (590-604) and even to Pope Damasus (366-384).

This project, if it is true, seems to me to be an insult to the history of the Church and to Sacred Tradition, a diabolical project that seeks to break with the Church of Christ, the apostles and the saints.

The cardinal’s comments came at a book launch held in Milan by Italian Catholic media outlet La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana. Addressing the conference, Sarah did not limit himself to the theme of his book, Does God exist?, but dealt with a wide-ranging field of subjects relating to the Catholic Church and spirituality.

Drawing once more from Benedict XVI, Sarah quoted the late German pope, saying, “the First Vatican Council did not define the Pope as an absolute monarch but, on the contrary, as the guarantor of obedience to the word handed down: his authority is linked to the tradition of the faith: this is also true in the area of the liturgy.”

“Even the Pope,” said Sarah, “can only be a humble servant of its proper development and of its constant integrity and identity … The Pope’s authority is not unlimited; it is at the service of Sacred Tradition.”

A few days prior, at a clergy conference in Rome held last week, Sarah expressed similar themes and alluded to the growth of attendance at the traditional liturgy:

Despite intransigent clerical attitudes in opposition to the venerable Latin-Gregorian liturgy, attitudes typical of the clericalism that Pope Francis has repeatedly denounced, a new generation of young people has emerged in the heart of the Church. This generation is one of young families, who demonstrate that this liturgy has a future because it has a past, a history of holiness and beauty that cannot be erased or abolished overnight.

Sarah will turn 80 this June, and as such will age out of voting in a papal conclave.

Though not naming it directly, Sarah’s comments appeared to be aimed at the restrictions ushered in by Pope Francis via his 2021 motu proprio Traditionis Custodes. Sarah is a public champion of the traditional Mass, offering it himself, and voiced strong criticism of the Pope’s restrictions when they emerged.

Assisted by current Dicastery for Divine Worship Prefect Cardinal Arthur Roche, such restrictions have only increased and rumors swirled last summer that a new, even more restrictive document, would emerge to further ban the traditional Mass.

READ: Pope Francis had new Latin Mass restrictions on his desk but didn’t sign document: report

Such an eventuality did not take place, following a large outpouring of public support from leading individuals in the ecclesial but also secular sphere.

However, in the past few days, Pope Francis issued fresh attacks against devotees of the Latin Mass in a memoir published January 14.

Repeating his regular denigration of supposed “rigidity” in young Catholics, Francis said that:

This rigidity is often accompanied by elegant and costly tailoring, lace, fancy trimmings, rochets. Not a taste for tradition but clerical ostentation, which then is none other than an ecclesiastic version of individualism. Not a return to the sacred but to quite the opposite, to sectarian worldliness.

READ: Pope Francis accuses young Catholic priests who like the Latin Mass of ‘mental imbalance’

He further accused Catholics who attend the traditional liturgy of the Church of having a “mental imbalance, emotional deviation, behavioral difficulties, a personal problem that may be exploited.”

Responding to the Pope’s remarks, former Tyler, Texas, ordinary Bishop Joseph Strickland urged that “true shepherds must speak against this attack, and it is an attack … many from the very top of the Church are seeking to eliminate the traditional Latin Mass.”

Sarah has long advocated for the position of Benedict XVI, namely to have the Latin Mass and the Novus Ordo as “mutually enriching” for one another. Decrying often the “liturgical war” of recent decades, he stated in 2019 that the Second Vatican Council “did not wish to break with the liturgical forms inherited from Tradition, but, on the contrary, to better enter and participate more fully in them.”

While speaking to the clergy conference in Rome last week, Sarah renewed that message, stating:

I want to make an appeal for that hermeneutic of reform in continuity spoken of by Pope Benedict XVI (Address, 22 December 2005).

This is a personal opinion, but it seems to me that the reformed liturgical books desperately need that continuity with the liturgical tradition that the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council sought to reform if they are to be true, beautiful, and good, and thereby do the best they can for the sanctification and edification of God’s Holy People. Others may disagree. But in my reading of the Council, this is what it intended: reform in continuity and not rupture with the past.

Notwithstanding the restrictions on the Latin Mass currently emerging from the Vatican – labelled a “persecution” by Cardinal Raymond Burke – traditional communities are thriving. Arguably even bolstered by Traditionis Custodes, Latin Mass groups have seen year-on-year records of new admissions to their seminaries."

As We Know, Dark Forces -- Very Dark Forces! I.E., The Devil Are Aligned Against President Trump. Fr. Ripperger (An Exorcist) Presents A Prayer To Consecrate Him To The Immaculate Heart Of Mary!

Just as our good God and Lord saved President Trump from death on at least two occasions, Fr. Ripperger -- a well-known exorcist -- is urging us to continue to pray for the President to consecrate him to the Immaculate Heart of Mary!

This is a very good thing, to say the least!

I would add that we pray for his conversion to the Catholic faith every day of the week, month and year, so that he will embrace the fullness of the saving Ark, the Church, founded by Our Lord on the Rock of St. Peter, as well as the 100 percent adherence to the Natural Law.

Whether one likes, dislikes, or even hates the President -- (not one single practicing Catholic has any business hating President Trump, or anyone for that matter) -- we must pray that Our Lord will use him as an instrument to broker peace in this war-torn world!  That one act alone will set the clock back on the threat of a nuclear conflagration that the lunatic globalists are chomping at the bit to start!

Here is the prayer that Fr. Ripperger issued and sent to lifesitenews.com, and written by Antonino Cambria

Fr. Ripperger issues urgent prayer for Donald Trump as he begins 2nd term - LifeSite

Mon Jan 20, 2025 - 5:14 pm EST

(LifeSiteNews) — Well-known exorcist Father Chad Ripperger sent LifeSiteNews co-founder John-Henry Westen a prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary for the intention of consecrating President Donald Trump to her Immaculate Heart.

As Trump begins his historic second term in office today, Ripperger is urging the faithful to say this prayer for Trump’s wisdom and guidance. The exorcist told Westen that there are dark forces working to derail any good the president might accomplish over the next four years, and he urgently needs our prayers.

Below is the prayer sent by Fr. Ripperger:

Immaculate Mary, patroness of the United States of America. Queen of Heaven and earth, beneath whose sway are subject all things that are lower than God, sorrowful and mindful of our own sinfulness and the sins of our nation, we come to thee our refuge and hope, knowing that our country cannot be saved by our own works, and mindful of how much our nation has departed from the ways of thy Son, we humbly ask that thou wouldst turn thine eyes upon our country to bring about its conversion.

We consecrate to thee all of those governing our Republic, so that what is spiritually and morally best for the citizens of our nation may be accomplished, and that they would govern according to the spiritual and moral principles which will bring our nation into conformity with the teachings of thy Son. Bind any forces, spiritual or human, that would seek to inflict harm or evil on our country, or those who do good for our nation by their governance.

Give grace to the citizens of this land, so that they may merit leaders who will govern according to the Sacred Heart of thy Son, that His glory may be made manifest, lest we be given the leaders we deserve. Trusting in the providential care of God the Father and thy maternal care, we have perfect confidence that thou wilt take care of us and will not leave us forsaken.

O Mary Immaculate, pray for us."

Pope Francis Defends Inviting Transgender Groups To Vatican: ‘Proximity To Everybody’. But No Call To Conversion And Amending One's Sinful Life??

Does our good God really love us as we are without converting and amending our lives?

If that is the case, then we have been deceived!

That would indicate that a soul contaminated with filth and mortal sin can enter the Heavenly Beatitude, isn't that the logical conclusion?

What is Bergoglio thinking??

How can he justify his error, heresy, scandal and confusion??

With verbal gymnastics?

With post-Vatican II doubletalk that makes even defined dogmas meaningless.

It seems so with almost every statement and written word that emanates from the Chair of St. Peter these days...

Here is the latest bizarre craziness from Francis: Pope Francis defends inviting transgender groups to Vatican: 'Proximity to everybody' - LifeSite

And written by Michael Haynes, Snr. Vatican CorrespondentMon Jan 20, 2025 - 11:36 am EST

"VATICAN CITY (LifeSiteNews) — Pope Francis has defended his regular welcoming of transgender groups at the Vatican, saying that “proximity” is key for the Church.

“Proximity! That’s the word. Proximity to everybody. Everyone.” This was the answer of Pope Francis when asked on Italy’s Che Tempo Che Fa program January 19 about the warm welcome he has given to groups of transgenders and homosexuals at the Vatican.

Such events have become a regular occurrence, and range in kind from the Pope greeting them at the end of his weekly general audience (at which they are given special seating) to welcoming dissident groups such as New Ways Ministry in private audience.

“But I want to remember this,” added Francis. “The worst sins, they are the ones that have more ‘angelicity.’ Sins of the flesh have less ‘angelicity.’ Sins of gluttony, sexual sins have less ‘angelicity.’”

He added:

Instead, not taking care of father and mother, lies, cheating … These have so much “angelicity.”

We need to be respectful and not put everything in [terms of] the sins of the flesh. It disgusts me when some people in confession always look for that.

The sins of the flesh have less “angelicity,” but the others, don’t forget. It is so bad not to take care of father and mother, so bad. They have more “angelicity.” This is the key to understanding a grave sin.

These lines closely resemble those used by the Pontiff in his recently released memoir Hope, in which he decried the outcry from Catholics over his allowing divorced and “re-married” to receive Holy Communion.

Writing in Hope, Francis decried “resistance” to Amoris Laetitia (which contained the controversial line about Holy Communion) as based on “inadequate knowledge or some form of hypocrisy.”

He described the document as simply opening “the doors for new pastoral challenges in regard to the family and that note on the possibility of divorced people having access to the sacraments.”

“Sexual sins,” he said, “tend to cause more of an outcry from some people. But they are really not the most serious. They are human sins, of the flesh.”

READ: What motivates Pope Francis’ attempts to normalize homosexual relationships?

The Pope’s practicing of “proximity” has included a number of audiences and meetings with individuals actively living as a member of the opposite sex, or key LGBT activists. Participants of these encounters recount how meeting the Pope re-enforced them, rather than awakening them to their biological reality.

One woman, who lives as a man, commented recently that her meeting confirmed her in her “transgender identity.”

The Catholic Church calls all souls to the practice of chastity, but particular care is given to those suffering with same-sex attraction to offer the assistance needed but also to ensure that the fullness of Catholic morality is not compromised in this endeavor.

Teaching found re-iterated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church notes that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered” and “contrary to the natural law.” The catechism is very clear that homosexual activity can never be approved, and repeats that “[h]omosexual persons are called to chastity.”

Under the leadership of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger in 1986, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) issued a document instructing bishops on the pastoral care of homosexual persons. The CDF admonished bishops to ensure they, and any “pastoral programme” in the diocese are “clearly stating that homosexual activity is immoral.”

Such an authentic pastoral approach would “assist homosexual persons at all levels of the spiritual life: through the sacraments, and in particular through the frequent and sincere use of the sacrament of Reconciliation, through prayer, witness, counsel and individual care,” stated the CDF.

The instruction adds:

But we wish to make it clear that departure from the Church’s teaching, or silence about it, in an effort to provide pastoral care is neither caring nor pastoral. Only what is true can ultimately be pastoral. The neglect of the Church’s position prevents homosexual men and women from receiving the care they need and deserve.

Therefore special concern and pastoral attention should be directed toward those who have this condition, lest they be led to believe that the living out of this orientation in homosexual activity is a morally acceptable option. It is not.

The CDF’s 1975 documentPersona Humana, also noted that “[t]here can be no true promotion of man’s dignity unless the essential order of his nature is respected.”

The Tenets Of The New, Novus Ordo, Synodal "Church": German Bishop Says ‘We Do Not Have To Evangelize’ The World Since People Can Be ‘Happy’ Without God!!!!!

Let's see what Our Lord said about that: "...a blatant contradiction to the commands of Jesus Christ, who ordered the apostles to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (St. Matthew 28:19-20)

German bishop says 'we do not have to evangelize' the world since people can be 'happy' without God - LifeSite

(Notice too that this sermon was given on the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God.  Isn't it "funny" how many of these bizarre sermons and statements come out from these bad actors on Feast days of our Blessed Mother???)

Should we (and those who now feel safe and secure in their un-belief) follow and believe what this German "bishop" says??

This is another prime example of the Judas goat leading the flock -- and potential converts -- over the cliff to certain spiritual death for all eternity!

Remember, Francis himself said several years back, that we Catholics should not proselytize, indicating that it is a sin to do so!!!

So, in reality, "bishop" Franz-Josef Overbeck, is just following the other Judas goat's directive.  Can you really blame him?  These modernist monsters are cut from the same non-Catholic, seamless garment, a la "cardinal" Bernadin...

Fri Jan 17, 2025 - 5:16 pm EST

"(LifeSiteNews) – German Bishop Franz-Josef Overbeck has said that “we do not have to evangelize the whole world” and that people are “happy and content” without God.

In a sermon on the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God, in the Essen Cathedral, Overbeck said that “we do not have to evangelize the whole world and win them over to a certain form of church life.”

“God will find ways to lead those who cannot or do not want to believe in Him onto a good path,” the bishop stated.

“Understanding and living our common Christian and church life in such a way that the Gospel is an invitation for people, but not a compulsion or pressure, is what we can do to ensure that there will continue to be places of Christianity in the future that are accessible to everyone.”

Overbeck’s statements are a blatant contradiction to the commands of Jesus Christ, who ordered the apostles to “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

While it is true that the Catholic Church condemns coercion when evangelizing and people are free to accept or reject the Gospel, Catholics, and especially bishops as successors of the apostles, have a clear command to evangelize all peoples.

Moreover, his claim that God will lead people on a good path who do not want to believe him is erroneous. The Catholic Church teaches that those who willfully turn away from God and commit mortal sin without repenting will suffer eternal damnation (cf. CCC 1037).

Overbeck cited studies that purport to show that many people say they do not need God or religion and still “are happy and content and often lead a fulfilled life and are by no means selfish people.”

Catholic philosopher Sebastian Ostritsch pointed out in an article for Die Tagespost that even if it were true that people are happy and content without God, Christians must primarily be concerned with their neighbor’s eternal salvation and not superficial contentment.

Speaking about the conversion of Jews to the one true Catholic faith, Mother Miriam of the Lamb of God, who is a Jewish convert to the Catholic faith, said that “the greatest form of antisemitism” is to deny them “the knowledge of Christ.”

Bishop Athanasius Schneider agreed with Mother Miriam, adding that Catholics have a duty to bring the Gospel to everyone and that it would be a sin against the love of neighbor to deny them the privilege of knowing the Lord."

End of article...

What is the primary goal of the Church?  The salvation of souls, correct?  Please pray for the conversion of this German bishop to the Catholic faith!

Fr. Gerald Murray Accuses Pope Francis Of ‘Endorsing The Homosexual Lifestyle’. Plus, Bergoglio's Vicious Attack On Traditional Catholics!

The new memoir just released by Francis, exposes a weird endorsement of homosexuals and that God accepts "them as they are."  In other words, there is no need for repentance and making a firm purpose of amendment to exit the sodomite lifestyle because of the "unconditional love" of our good God and Lord.

Really?

Sorry, there are conditions, such as the Ten Commandments (not the ten suggestions!) and receiving the Holy Eucharist in a state of grace, if one is to enter the Heavenly Beatitude.

The Bible -- St. Paul -- is clear on the condemnation of such horrendous un-natural acts.  However, the heretic Jesuit, J. Martin, has consistently quipped that St. Paul got it wrong, and that Church teaching should be changed regarding the sin that cries to Heaven for vengeance!

Please read the following article from lifesitenews.com and written by Michael Haynes, Snr. Vatican Correspondent

Fr. Gerald Murray accuses Pope Francis of 'endorsing the homosexual lifestyle' - LifeSite

Also, please watch the video (about 36 minutes in length) from that "radical," "rigid" entity, EWTN!

Fri Jan 17, 2025 - 3:22 pm EST

"(LifeSiteNews) — Father Gerald Murray has accused Pope Francis of “endorsing the homosexual lifestyle” in the Pontiff’s newly released memoir.

During the January 16 episode of Raymond Arroyo’s “The World Over,” Fr. Murray opined that instead of renewing the Church’s teaching on homosexuality, the Pope was in fact “endorsing the homosexual lifestyle by saying that these people have to be respected, that the Catholic Church should not say anything to disturb the peace and tranquility of people who have embraced the homosexual lifestyle.”

Billed as a quasi-autobiography, Hope contains only little significant content but does provide Francis a space to repeat comments he has made about homosexual individuals and devotees of the traditional Mass.

Renewing his prior criticism of laws against homosexuality, which are particularly prevalent in African nations, Francis said that homosexuality “is a human fact” to which the Church must not respond “faintheartedly.”

READ: Pope Francis says God loves homosexuals ‘as they are’ in new memoir

Continuing, Francis made a suggestion appearing to remove the need for conversion away from the practice of a homosexual lifestyle:

Continuing, Francis made a suggestion appearing to remove the need for conversion away from the practice of a homosexual lifestyle:

God the Father loves them with the same unconditional love, He loves them as they are, and He accompanies them in the same way that He does with all of us, being close by, merciful, and tender.

But commenting on the Pope’s passages, Murray questioned what Francis’ intention was when saying that “God loves homosexuals just as they are.”

“Does he mean God loves them committing acts of sodomy? I hope not, because sodomy is a mortal sin, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that it is an abomination,” warned Murray. “It’s a horrible thing. It should never be done.”

The well known priest – a canonist and priest of the Archdiocese of New York – also said the Pontiff was “spouting propaganda of the homosexual interest groups.”

“What he’s referring to as crime is sodomy,” noted Murray in response to EWTN’s Raymond Arroyo. “Sodomy was outlawed in the entire Christendom for most of history. That was done away with recently in most countries, but in African countries, those laws against sodomy continue.” (A number of saints and Fathers of the Church did in fact call for legal punishments against the practice of homosexuality.)

The Catholic Church teaches that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered. They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.”

Drawing from such aspects of Catholic morality, Murray added that “you have no right to commit sodomy. It’s an immoral act and it’s socially destructive.”

READ: Pope Francis says Church must fight anti-sodomy laws and bishops who support them need conversion

We have to preach the truth of Christ and say there is no happiness and salvation in pursuing a life that’s dedicated to committing acts of mortal sin. That is not the way you’re supposed to live.

That’s the message of the Church, it’s always been that message.

Under Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger in 1986, the Vatican issued a document instructing bishops on the pastoral care of homosexual persons. The text admonished bishops to ensure they, and any “pastoral programme” in the diocese, are “clearly stating that homosexual activity is immoral.”

Ratzinger’s text outlined that an authentic pastoral approach would “assist homosexual persons at all levels of the spiritual life: through the sacraments, and in particular through the frequent and sincere use of the sacrament of Reconciliation, through prayer, witness, counsel and individual care.”

But it also noted that all those involved in providing such pastoral care must be clear about the Church’s teaching, since “departure from the Church’s teaching, or silence about it, in an effort to provide pastoral care is neither caring nor pastoral. Only what is true can ultimately be pastoral. The neglect of the Church’s position prevents homosexual men and women from receiving the care they need and deserve.

“Therefore special concern and pastoral attention should be directed toward those who have this condition, lest they be led to believe that the living out of this orientation in homosexual activity is a morally acceptable option. It is not.”

A prior 1975 document from the Vatican, Persona Humana, reads: “There can be no true promotion of man’s dignity unless the essential order of his nature is respected.”

Through his regular audiences and meetings with notable LGBT advocates – such as Father James Martin SJ and New Ways Ministry – Pope Francis has given much hope to such activists that Church teaching on homosexuality could be up for change in the future.

Drawing on this undercurrent, leading prelates have suggested that the Catechism should have its language on homosexuality changed in order to be more welcoming and less “hurtful.”

READ: Cardinal Schönborn cites death penalty revision when asked about changing Catechism on LGBT issues

Though he has stipulated that Catholic teaching only admits marriage between a man and a woman, Francis has controversially defended civil unions for same-sex “couples” as well as authorizing the blessing of same-sex “couples” who present themselves together for such a blessing."
