The vetoed legislation, H.B. 2311, known as the Adoption Conscience Act, passed the Kansas House 84-38 and the Senate 31-9 earlier this year. The bill sought to ensure that the Secretary for Children and Families could not impose policies requiring prospective foster or adoptive families to affirm government stances on sexuality or marriage that conflict with their sincerely held religious beliefs.

It also prohibited the state from preemptively barring such families from being selected or licensed to foster or adopt based on those pro-life, Christian beliefs.

Gov. Kelly, a Democrat, did not immediately provide a detailed explanation for the veto, though her administration has faced accusations of prioritizing ideological conformity over expanding foster care options.

Brittany Jones, director of policy and engagement at Kansas Family Voice, a faith-based advocacy group, condemned the decision in a statement:

“Unfortunately, the Kelly Administration has repeatedly shown its disdain for people of faith, especially those who seek to care for children in need of a safe home. Kansas has an ever-increasing foster care crisis. Instead of finding ways to broaden the number of families available to care for children, the Administration has tried to find ways to make families comply with the government’s belief about sexuality and marriage, outright rejecting some from even being considered if they will not conform. H.B. 2311 is a simple bill that upholds the best interest of the child, while ensuring that families’ beliefs are not violated in the process.”

Jones urged the Kansas Legislature to override the veto when lawmakers return to Topeka.

The veto comes amid broader debates over religious liberty and adoption policies.

In a related case, a mother in Oregon filed a lawsuit in 2023 after being denied adoption due to her Christian beliefs. Jessica Bates said the state rejected her application because she would not affirm policies conflicting with her faith.

Kansas has struggled with a growing number of children in foster care, prompting calls for policies that widen the pool of eligible families.

The Kansas Legislature could attempt to override Kelly’s veto, which would require a two-thirds majority in both chambers. Given the bill’s strong bipartisan support in initial voting, an override remains a possibility, though no date has been set for lawmakers to reconvene."

Black Democrats slam Illinois bill allowing government to interrogate homeschoolers - LifeSite

"(LifeSiteNews) — A Democrat-backed bill that would allow Illinois public school officials to interrogate homeschooling parents about lesson plans is facing opposition from a core constituency – black Democrats.

House Bill 2827 would massively expand the power of public school officials to oversee homeschoolers within their district. Critics warn the legislation could lead to mandated shots as well as other heavy-handed state involvement. Public backlash against the bill has dwarfed supporters of it – about 42,000 people have filed witness slips opposing the bill, while only 1,000 have filed public support for it.

The bill awaits a second hearing as of Monday morning.

The law would also require new documentation for homeschooling parents, and simple mistakes could be used to justify further government investigation.

Democratic legislators and concerned families and other citizens rallied against the bill last Saturday in downtown Chicago.

“They say it’s just a form. It’s just a form, they say. It creates a new pathway to criminalization,” Chris Butler, a black pastor and former Congressional candidate, said on Thursday. LifeSiteNews previously profiled Butler, who is pro-life, when he ran in 2022.

Butler also said people should support homeschooling since it is getting parents involved in their kids’ education. He noted that “[we]want parents to be involved. These parents who are homeschooling their children are doing just that and we should do nothing in the state of Illinois to hinder them.”

Democratic state Representative La Shawn Ford also argued against the bill at the rally.

“Right now, I don’t believe the bill is what’s needed in Illinois,” Ford said. “I believe in restorative justice and I believe in making sure that people don’t have a pathway to the criminal justice system. This bill is a pipeline to the criminal justice system for parents, and I can’t stand for that. How can we criminalize parents for wanting to love their children?”

The Catholic Conference of Illinois also opposes the bill, as it would require private schools to turn over student data to Illinois.

“If the state of Illinois wants to get that information, they should get it directly from the parents. They should not be putting us in between them and our parents,” Executive Director Bob Gilligan told Center Square. “We’re here to educate children. That’s what we’re here to do. We’re not here to turn over information to the state of Illinois about the kids in our schools, their personally-identifiable information, as well as the information about their parents.”

The proposal has drawn criticism from the left-leaning Chicago Tribune, who denounced the bill in an editorial.

The newspaper criticized the “open-ended nature of this information-collection regimen” as well as the criminalization of paperwork.

“It’s understandable to want to combat neglect, but it’s unclear from the legislation what would prompt a curriculum and progress review, making this provision prone to misunderstandings and allowing bureaucrats to substitute their judgment for parents’,” the major newspaper also warned. It also questioned why more focus is not being paid to the dismal reading levels in public schools.

“Why, we ask, are politicians focusing so much attention on homeschooling and private school accountability when, statewide, only 30% of fourth-graders in the public school system can read at grade level?”

The Coalition for Responsible Home Education (CRHE) is pushing the bill. The Massachusetts-based organization is heavily backed by the left-wing Ben and Jerry’s Foundation. Its board and staff are former homeschoolers, many of whom use LGBTQ pronouns. The chair of the board, Carmen Longoria-Green, previously served as counsel for Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

Another board member is Jeremy Young, of the “free expression” group PEN America.

CRHE has an explicitly anti-Christian slant in some of its documents.

“The homeschool lobby created the parental-rights extremism movement,” the group claims. “For decades, they’ve deregulated homeschooling, taking away all of homeschooled children’s protections from educational neglect, isolation, and abuse.”

“For decades, Christian fundamentalists in the United States have worked to enact their regressive ideas about gender and race by using homeschooling to isolate and abuse their own children,” a 2022 document states.

“Organizers focused on children’s rights and child advocacy are acutely aware of the increasingly hostile climate in the United States for children with marginalized identities,” the group claims further. “Attacks on LGBTQ+ children, young people, and the spaces and resources designed to serve their needs have accelerated in the 2020s.”'

Cardinal Fernández issues ‘clarification’ to Vatican document, suggests Church approval of gender mutilation in ‘severe dysphoria’ cases - CatholicVote org

"In a striking departure from established Church teaching, Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández has signaled that sex “change” surgeries may be morally acceptable under certain conditions. 

Cardinal Fernández, the prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF) offered this perspective in a conference he delivered via video to a Theological congress organized by the Catholic University of Cologne (Germany) in mid January. But then in March, the Cardinal posted the conference as an official “clarification” of Dignitas infinita, the Church’s 2024 declaration on human dignity.

While Dignitas infinita firmly rejected gender ideology and condemned sex “change” procedures as incompatible with human dignity, Cardinal Fernández’s “clarification” — posted in the dicastery’s official website exclusively in German and Italian — introduces a reinterpretation that departs from the document’s original moral clarity.

Dignitas infinita states, “[A]ny sex-change intervention, as a rule, risks threatening the unique dignity the person has received from the moment of conception.”

Rather than reiterate the document’s opposition to the legitimacy of gender mutilation surgery outright, the Prefect suggested that its morality depends on the severity of a person’s suffering. 

“When the document uses the expression ‘as a rule,’ it does not exclude the possibility that there are cases outside the norm,” Cardinal Fernández said. He referenced cases of “severe dysphoria” which might lead a person toward suicide.

In those instances, he suggested, medical interventions that would otherwise be morally impermissible might need to be “assessed with great care.”

“We don’t want to be cruel and say that we don’t understand the conditioning of people and the deep suffering that exists in some cases of ‘dysphoria,’ which manifests itself even in childhood,” he said. 

This marks a noteworthy departure from the original Church stance. Dignitas infinita acknowledges only a narrow set of exceptions for surgery — specifically when correcting anatomical anomalies to align with genetic sex. 

In contrast, Cardinal Fernández has now suggested that procedures intended to “change” one’s biological sex could be considered morally acceptable if motivated by “severe dysphoria” or suicidal ideation.

The DDF has not provided a framework for when gender dysphoria can be considered “severe.” In a highly critical analysis of Cardinal Fernandez’s “clarification,” Italian moral theologian Tommaso Scandroglio wrote in a March 27 Daily Compass article that “for the Prefect, the ‘change’ of sex is morally acceptable when the dysphoria is severe.”

“But surgical interventions that contradict the genetic sex are intrinsically evil acts and remain so regardless of the conditions that motivate them,” Scandroglio wrote. “This is why Cardinal Fernández has accepted the principle of ‘yes to sex reassignment.’ Once the principle has been accepted, logical consistency will take us from borderline cases to common cases, from the exceptional to the normal.”

Sixteen-Year-Old Track Star Stabbed To Death And Dies In The Arms Of His Twin Brother.

 The killer was (is) a 17-year-old black guy...

Now, before I go any further, let me ask you all a simple question: what would have happened, and what type of news coverage would there be if the killer was a white guy, and the victim was black????

First of all, common sense would tell you that the leftist, Marxist media would be splashing this horrific story all over the "6-o'clock news" day in and day out, 24/7, stirring up violent attacks on anyone that is white, (remember the complicit media supporting ANTIFA and BLM movements?) and calling for non-stop demonstrations and investigations by the DOJ's civil rights division.

But that's not what happened because the victim was a white teen, not black.

And because of this, the silence of the corrupt, biased media is deafening...

What is almost as scary as the crime committed by this maniac, is that the "altercation" should have been talked out and not ending with a knife thrust into the chest (heart!) of the victim.

Similar craziness takes place on the nation's highways just about every day of the year: it's called road rage...

But what causes these people to live right on the edge between sanity and lunacy?

Poor upbringing?

Poverty?

Single parent (fatherless) homes?

Sexual abuse?

Phycological abuse?

The exclusion of God in their tortured lives?

I think one can list many more reasons for this type of deadly action, however, if one thing stands out -- in addition to the exclusion of God -- is the overall cheapening of the precious gift of life...

Society is bombarded with stories of those demonic forces that are responsible for the slaughter of the pre-born, pornography, movies filled with unbelievable violence, and perhaps, the almost constant brainwashing of those youngsters in the public school system (sadly, in some "Catholic" schools as well!).

Again, there's almost an endless list...

As the news broke about this senseless and horrific killing, one aspect of this tragedy, is that the 16-year-old died in the arms of his twin brother!

I can't even imagine these events...

But get this: the father has already forgiven the killer!

I will say that that is all well and good, and very Christian of him, but now comes the consequences -- the Justice -- for the killer.  

The taking of innocent life is one of those sins that cries to Heaven for vengeance!

Let us hope that the killer will be found guilty -- he already has admitted to killing the youngster! -- and sentenced appropriately...

And may God have mercy on his soul...

Communist China Tightens Grip On Religion With Sweeping New Laws

 I'll start off by saying that the 2018 diabolical "agreement" between apostate Rome and Red Communist China is one reason why the CCP now feels emboldened to crack down on all religious activity, driving faithful Chinses Catholics even deeper underground.

That agreement, by the way, allows the Red Communists to pick and choose who they want to fill vacant bishoprics with their own guy, subject, supposedly, to Vatican approval.  In reality, their pick is the one installed regardless of what Rome decides!  

Now, there are make-believe COMMUNIST "bishops" running the treasonous "Catholic Patriotic Association," rightfully condemned by the faithful, Cardinal Zen...

"VATICAN CITY (LifeSiteNews) — New legislation from the Chinese Communist Party will take effect next month, ushering in fresh restrictions on the practice of religion in the country.

Under laws set to take effect May 1, foreigners in China will be subject to increased control on the exercise of their religion. In 38 Articles, the new laws further promote the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) goal of sinicization, namely the practice of enforcing all religions to adhere to communist beliefs and practice.

Foreigners are banned from using religion “to damage China’s national interests, social public interests, and citizens’ legitimate rights and interests, and must not violate China’s public order and customs” – a decree which seems perhaps benign until one realizes that this entails only worshipping at CCP-approved locations, and in a CCP-approved manner. (Article 5)

The CCP’s aim, as already highlighted by numerous China experts, is to promote communism through all means possible, including religion.

Certainly, any attempt to contact or worship with, for example, the Underground Church in China is now de facto banned by virtue of the new laws.

Ay foreigners seeking to establish a “temporary location” for a religious ceremony – one which is not already a CCP-approved site – must go through numerous steps of approval, including having at least “three conveners” to support an application for using a site to hold a religious ceremony. A “convener” must be a Chinese resident with no criminal record, must not be a diplomat or a person with immunity, and must not be deemed to “be hostile to China’s words and deeds.” This latter part especially would rule out any whom the CCP authorities deem not to be in line with their goals.

In sweeping moves apparently designed to enforce Chinese government control over each and every religious ceremony, the new laws outline every possibility for the celebration of a ceremony and the manner in which it must take place – replete with copious, corresponding amounts of applications and government approvals for each such event.

The laws also appear to be aimed at limiting foreign influence on Chinese nationals, stating that any religious ceremony which is led by a foreigner must only be attended by foreigners as Chinese people are forbidden:

Except for Chinese religious teaching staff who arrange or invite religious activities in accordance with the provisions of these implementation rules, collective religious activities held by foreigners in China are limited to foreigners in China.

However, the laws also invited foreigners to engage in dialogue with Chinese religious groups and bodies, in what is a thinly veiled attempt to simply promote CCP ideology on the non-Chinese. If foreigners take part in such a meeting, they must commit to adhere to Chinese laws generally, but also “respect the principle of China’s religious independence and self-employment, have no words or deeds hostile to China, and have no extreme religious ideological tendencies.”

Anything which religious foreigners teach must “not violate China’s laws, regulations and rules” nor “interfere with China’s religious affairs … [or] violate China’s public order and customs.” In essence, foreigners are allowed to speak of only those things which CCP officials approve, while in return they will be met with CCP propaganda on religious affairs.

Ever controlling, the CCP’s laws also outline requirements for printed, audiovisual, and general religious supplies used by foreigners in the country. None of these can “contain content that endangers China’s national security, harms the public interest of society, and violates the principle of independence of China’s religion.”

Foreigners seeking to bring such items into China for “self-use” are forbidden from bringing any more that 10 volumes each, in an effort to prevent any distribution of religious material through the country.

As if any leeway still remained under the all-encompassing purview of the 38 Articles, the new law also outlines a wide-ranging set of prohibitions on certain activities for foreigners when in China. Any interference with Chinese religious groups or activities is banned, as is establishing any religious groups or centers or activities.

The production and distribution of religious material of any kind is banned, along with accepting donations from Chinese people and, of course, organizing unapproved lectures.

Religious education is strictly forbidden as are all “illegal activities involving religion.”

The new legislation only serves to highlight the implications of the Sino-Vatican deal, first signed between Beijing and the Holy See in 2018. The CCP’s new laws reveal that religion in China is, and will remain, always subservient to the Communist Party in charge. While officials at the Holy See may parrot lines about the deal “moving in the right direction” and bearing “fruit,” it serves to do little more than bolster the authority of the schismatic CCP church and lead Underground Catholics into increased persecution.

Hong Kong’s emeritus Cardinal Joseph Zen and China experts warn that sinicization involves having “all religious communities be led by the Party, controlled by the Party, and support the Party.”

The CCP’s new laws will do just that, building upon the already draconian legislation which exists and further controlling any exercise of religion."

A spokeswoman for the Archdiocese of Washington on Friday shared a statement with CNA in which Cardinal Robert McElroy confirmed McCarrick’s passing. McCarrick, who was reportedly suffering with dementia, had been living in a facility in rural Missouri. 

“Today I learned of the death of Theodore McCarrick, former archbishop of Washington. At this moment I am especially mindful of those who he harmed during the course of his priestly ministry. Through their enduring pain, may we remain steadfast in our prayers for them and for all victims of sexual abuse,” McElroy said. 

Ordained a priest in 1958, the New York-born McCarrick rose through the ranks of the American Church throughout the mid- to late-20th century. During his episcopal tenure he was an auxiliary bishop of New York, then led the Diocese of Metuchen, New Jersey; the Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey; and later Washington, D.C.

He was a leading participant in the development of the 2002 Dallas Charter and the USCCB Essential Norms, which established procedures for handling allegations of sexual abuse concerning priests.

In 2018, reports of McCarrick’s abuse, grooming, and harassment of seminarians burst publicly onto the scene amid a nationwide reckoning on clerical sexual abuse. 

A Vatican investigation in 2019 found McCarrick guilty of numerous instances of sexual abuse, and Pope Francis laicized him in February of that year. The year after, the Vatican published a lengthy report on McCarrick examining in detail the “institutional knowledge and decision-making” regarding the former cardinal and how he continued to be promoted despite rumors of misconduct. 

In addition to the Vatican investigations, McCarrick faced numerous criminal charges. However, a Massachusetts state district judge ruled in 2023 that McCarrick was not competent to stand trial on the criminal sexual abuse charges brought against him. 

A criminal case against McCarrick in Wisconsin was suspended in January 2024 after a psychologist hired by the court found McCarrick was not competent to stand trial."
