Catholic Church Staff Are Helping Put on a Drag Show in St. Gallen; “Catholic” Theologian Says Drag and Catholicism are Both About “Transformation”
"...A homosexual person’s experience may “convert” a bishop. A transgender advocate educates bishops. A synodal process discovers that old categories require refinement. A drag performer becomes a partner in spiritual reflection.The “different Church” emerges through listening. Notice what happens to doctrine in this system. It rarely gets formally denied. Formal denial would cause trouble. Instead doctrine is placed in permanent conversation with experience. The conversation has no fixed closing date. Pastoral practice advances while theology “discerns.” Eventually the faithful discover that the theoretical prohibition still exists, but the entire institutional environment around it speaks another language. That is a far more effective revolution than issuing a new catechism. A sedevacantist looks at this machinery and says the conclusion is obvious: a true Catholic hierarchy cannot institutionalize principles destructive of the religion it exists to guard. The SSPX and recognize-and-resist world answer differently. They distinguish office from abuse of office, authority from illegitimate commands, indefectibility from disastrous governance. Those arguments deserve serious treatment. What no serious Catholic should do anymore is pretend the underlying phenomenon is imaginary. Ten bishops did gather in Rome. Study Group 9 really does speak of a paradigm shift. Savino really did say, “I have converted.” Saporito really did describe New Ways Ministry’s sessions as enriching. Fuentes really did speak about making a “different Church.” St. Gallen really is collaborating on a drag event. Aparecida really did unveil the Centro Aletti façade. The facts are becoming less subtle than the apologetics required to explain them. Perhaps that is the deepest change of all. The revolution once needed theologians to disguise it.
