Contraception and suffering wars and rumors of wars 5 17 18

Why is there suffering; wars, etc…

That is the question of the ages, right?

The “simple” and most obvious answer: mankind’s nearly universal rejection of God.

Of course, adding to this calamity, is the even more obvious weakness in the human element of the Church today, with perennial teachings on morality and sin practically non-existent from the pulpit, save from more traditional Latin Mass communities.

For an example of this dilemma, we can go back to the year 1968 to see the push-back on Pope Paul VI’s encyclical Humanae Vitae condemning contraception.  The problem: many “Catholics” had already fallen into the trap of the sexual revolution, letting their “conscience be their guide.”

Here is a key section of Humanae Vitae:

Grave Consequences of Methods of Artificial Birth Control

17. Upright men can even better convince themselves of the solid grounds on which the teaching of the Church in this field is based, if they care to reflect upon the consequences of methods of artificial birth control. Let them consider, first of all, how wide and easy a road would thus be opened up towards conjugal infidelity and the general lowering of morality. Not much experience is needed in order to know human weakness, and to understand that men -- especially the young, who are so vulnerable on this point -- have need of encouragement to be faithful to the moral law, so that they must not be offered some easy means of eluding its observance. It is also to be feared that the man, growing used to the employment of anti-conceptive practices, may finally lose respect for the woman and, no longer caring for her physical and psychological equilibrium, may come to the point of considering her as a mere instrument of selfish enjoyment, and no longer his respected and beloved companion.

Let it be considered also that a dangerous weapon would thus be placed in the hands of those public authorities who take no heed of moral exigencies. Who could blame a government for applying to the solution of the problems of the community those means acknowledged to be licit for married couples in the solution of a family problem? Who will stop rulers from favoring, from even imposing upon their peoples, if they were to consider it necessary, the method of contraception which they judge to be more efficacious? In such a way men, wishing to avoid individual, family, or social difficulties encountered in the observance of the divine law, would reach the point of placing at the mercy of the intervention of public authorities the most personal and most reserved sector of conjugal intimacy.

Consequently, if the mission of generating life is not to be exposed to the arbitrary will of men, one must necessarily recognize insurmountable limits to the possibility of man's domination over his own body and its functions; limits which no man, whether a private individual or one invested with authority, may licitly surpass. And such limits cannot be determined otherwise than by the respect due to the integrity of the human organism and its functions, according to the principles recalled earlier, and also according to the correct understanding of the "principle of totality" illustrated by our predecessor Pope Pius XII [21].

Further reading of this short encyclical reveals the disastrous road that the mortal sin of contraception can very easily lead to the final end of any child conceived by “mistake”: abortion.

After all, the killing of the pre-born is legal in these United States, right?   The supreme court said so in 1973, so it’s “settled law” we are told.

There are many reasons why there is suffering, and war and rumors of war.

The most important of all human interactions: bringing new life into the world and continuing the human race, according to the dictate of the Creator, has lost its sanctity; its value.

Add to this catastrophic situation, is the spreading of a form of American “democracy” that stresses regime change in many sovereign countries, especially those in the East and Middle East.

The result: war, and rumors of war.  The loss of men and treasure.  Debilitating wounds, with loss of limbs, mental impairment, PTSD, break-up of families, and suicide, but this is a tiny list of what happens when mankind kicks God out of the public sphere.

Remember, “separation of church and state” is “settled law,” at least according to the secular humanist that permeate American society.  And those secularists cite the Constitution as “proof” of that distortion of the First Amendment, as well as a letter written by President Jefferson to a pastor expressing his OPINION regarding same!

If one simply reads the First Amendment, it is clear there is no such injunction found anywhere in the text!  And yet, here we are…

Now, how do we handle the suffering that we have to endure, or those that are especially close to us must endure?

I’m not going to “preach” here, but if we listen to what Our Lord tells us in the Bible that if He must suffer for us, then we could expect to suffer for Him in some way, shape or form.

This suffering can take the form of some physical or mental ailment, but also from evil forces around us.  Unfortunately, the enemy is also within our holy Church, sending mixed signals when it comes to those doctrines that we must believe to win the race and claim the prize of eternal life (St. Paul).

The state is also failing in its duties to guide its citizens to their final end: to enjoy the heavenly beatitude forever.

Again, the reasons are legion, and some are obvious, but the insidious and yet subtle failures can easily infect and rot the intellect of those that are not prepared to discern, in conscience, what is right or wrong, if even only on a natural level.

There is at least one solution open to the common man: prayer, and lots of it.  After all, I do believe in miracles!
